How Far You Can Go With Dropshipping Fashion Clothes: Arik’s Experience

Pros & Cons Of Using Dropshipping Sources Other Than AliExpress

AliExpress is a wonderful marketplace for dropshipping stores. Its prices, guarantees and shipping options let entrepreneurs resell goods to almost any country in the world with decent margins. But what about other dropshipping sources? In this article, we’ll discuss the benefits and pitfalls of dropshipping products from other platforms.

Let’s suppose you started a dropshipping business with AliExpress. It’s a good platform that meets all the needs of a dropshipping entrepreneur. You make money and everything looks fine.

But then you found a product, say, on Amazon which you cannot find on AliExpress. It’s really popular, and you wouldn’t mind adding it to your inventory.

So, is it a good idea to dropship products from sources other than AliExpress? And if yes, how do you do it?

I’ll try to answer these questions.

Pitfalls of using other dropshipping sources

Unfortunately, dropshipping from alternative sources carries a number of risks and disadvantages. Certainly, it doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea and you should forget about it. Still, there are objective facts one has to keep in mind.

1. Quality of goods

Some people have doubts about the quality of AliExpress products. But it’s a common misconception. In fact, many goods on AliExpress come from the same manufacturers who produce and keep stock for the globally known brands, and are the same items that are offered on popular online marketplaces and in brick-and-mortar stores. When you’re dealing with other platforms, however, you can’t always be sure about the quality of their offering.

2. No benefits from the AliDropship plugin

The AliDropship plugin works only with AliExpress. If you import products from other dropshipping sources, you won’t be able to use all the benefits of the plugin.

Yes, you can create a product page that will look identical to those made by the plugin. But when you start getting orders from customers, you’ll have to process them manually.

It’s not that difficult though. You simply need to export the list of your orders, delete all orders except for those addressed to your non-AliExpress supplier from the CSV file, and send it to the supplier.

Admin panel of a AliDropship store. By clicking on the button, you can export all orders into a CSV file.

The same is true for all the other management operations that AliDropship plugin can easily automate: changing product prices, updating stock availability together with the supplier’s product info, updating shipping status, etc. If a product is imported from a marketplace other than AliExpress, sadly, you’ll have to do all these tasks manually.

3. Compatibility issues

Although it is possible to dropship goods from other suppliers, you can face all kinds of compatibility issues. Since the plugin is not designed to work with data from other sources, anything can break. In some cases, you will have to use unfamiliar plugins or tools.

4. Many dropshipping sources are resellers

When looking for dropshipping companies, you will find that some of them sell goods that look very similar or identical to the ones you see on AliExpress. But the price is higher.

It’s because these “suppliers” actually resell the same products from the most famous Chinese platform.

5. It’s hard to find reliable dropshipping sources

The four pitfalls I have described above are just minor nuisances compared to this one. When you work with other suppliers, there’s nothing stopping them from deceiving you.

Let me explain. It can be time-consuming to find enough niche-specific reliable suppliers on AliExpress, too. However, if they fail you, you can at least return the money. That’s how AliExpress works: a seller doesn’t get the money until the customer confirms that the package was received and everything is fine.

But when you work with other suppliers (at least some of them), there’s no such guarantee. Whenever you ask the supplier to send an item to your customer and pay the money, the supplier can simply disappear. After all, in dropshipping you don’t even see the products you sell.

There are other ways to deceive you. Our team was looking for other dropshipping sources and found a supplier company which claimed their warehouse was located in the US. The team wanted to use this advantage to provide more favorable shipping options to the buyers, and agreed to cooperate. But later we found out that this company shipped the goods from China, which meant no time or money savings for the shoppers.

Of course, the supplier refused to return our money.

Benefits of using other dropshipping sources

Despite all these pitfalls, dropshipping businesses can definitely benefit from working with other suppliers. At least if they manage to find a reliable one.

1. Better prices

If your potential supplier isn’t lying about manufacturing original products, his or her wholesale prices can be very attractive. Besides, when working with a reliable company, one can haggle over the prices.

When advertising goods on Facebook or other social media, you have to cover the cost of conversion. That’s why it’s important to find affordable products.

2. Other dropshipping sources can have rare items

Finding promising products on AliExpress is not that difficult. But finding something unique may be challenging considering the competition on the dropshipping markets. Suppliers from other countries can offer rare products that’ll give your online store an advantage over other businesses.

3. Better shipping

Long shipping time is one of the most commonly discussed features of AliExpress. Some sellers have warehouses in the US and Europe, which shortens delivery. Besides, many of them use ePacket – a relatively affordable and fast delivery method. So, this issue isn’t that much of a problem.

Still, being able to deliver dropshipping products even faster is an advantage. And suppliers located near or inside the countries you sell goods to can provide that. Additionally, alternative sources can send several products in a single package.

How to find dropshipping suppliers?

Look for dropshipping sources on supplier directories

There are lots of supplier directories that provide access to wholesalers. By registering on one of such sites, you can contact them and ask for cooperation. Here are some of the most popular platforms: SaleHoo, Wholesale Central, Doba, Wholesale2b.

Note that most directories charge fees for allowing you to browse their databases. On the other hand, they also check the companies on the list. So, the risks here are minimal.

This method is useful when you’re not sure what niche to choose or have no idea how to get started. But after you find your supplier, there’s actually no need to keep paying the directory.

Call the manufacturer

If you have found a product you want to resell, it’s a good idea to contact the manufacturer and ask for their wholesaler’s contact information. Then you call the wholesaler and ask if you can dropship the product.

Search directly in Google

This is the most straightforward way to find a potential supplier. But at the same time, it’s the riskiest method.

As a rule, wholesalers and distributors aren’t that good at marketing, promotion and search engine optimization. You will hardly find one on the first or second pages of the search results. It’ll take a lot of work and time.

Here’s a tip! If you find a good-looking website, chances are this is just a reseller. If the site looks awful, it’s probably safe to work with the company. As I said, these guys are terrible at marketing.

Contact AliExpress sellers directly

If you don’t like the idea of working with companies outside of AliExpress, you can also contact some of your most trusted AliExpress suppliers. Of course, this way you can’t get new products other than what the seller already has. But you can haggle over better prices, or shipping or packing terms, etc.

Finding additional dropshipping sources can substantially enrich your offer. On the other hand, there are many items on AliExpress that sell extremely well. If you’re having trouble finding such goods, simply subscribe to AliDropship’s Premium Products and get new top-selling products each week.

Consumer Psychology: 10 Principles That Influence Your Customers’ Behavior

Do you want to know what makes your customers act? Why do they choose some products over others? How can you get them to purchase from you instead of another company? The answers lie in consumer psychology.

One key part of being a great marketer is understanding how (and why) people think and act the way they do. By learning why people make purchases, you are better prepared to drive sales.

So, how do you attract, convince, and convert more people with your promotional efforts? Consider the following 10 principles of appealing to consumer psychology in marketing!

#1 Action paralysis principle

People commonly second guess their own behavior. It is especially common in the situations when they’re not sure how their decision will impact them or people close to them. That’s what the action paralysis principle is all about.

If you’re trying to trigger someone into action, clearly emphasize that their action will make a difference. For example, instead of just saying ‘buy now’, you can say ‘buy now and improve your craft skills today.’

An example of using the action paralysis principle to influence consumer psychology

The idea here is that whenever your current clients or prospective customers have a reason to question their decisions, provide a valid argument for them to convert or make a purchase.

#2 Reciprocity

If you’ve ever gotten a mint with your bill at a restaurant, you’ve been the victim of reciprocity. According to Robert Cialdini, when servers bring a check to their patrons without a mint, the diners will tip according to their perceptions of the service given. With one mint, the tip jumps up 3.3%. Two mints? The tip jumps “through the roof” to roughly 20%.

Use this principle by offering free content, such as ebooks or articles, to get contact information from potential customers.

An example of using the reciprocity principle to influence consumer psychology

The first ad the customer sees should emphasize what they’re receiving. Then, ask for their contact information after they click on the offer.

#3 Loss aversion

The loss aversion principle means that people would prefer avoiding a loss to gaining an equal amount. For example, we are more upset over losing $20 than we are happy about finding $20. Why do we act this way? Possibly because strong anxiety and fear are associated with loss. Negative emotions, in turn, tend to have a stronger, more lasting impact on people than positive ones.

An example of using the loss aversion principle to influence consumer psychology

To make use of this consumer psychology principle, try centering your current advertising message around losses. If you offer free trials, remind the consumer of what they will lose when the free trial is over. Or, say you offer free shipping after a customer’s order goes beyond a certain price. If they move to checkout without reaching the total, show them the amount they will lose to shipping costs compared with the amount they need to add to their cart for free shipping.

#4 The decoy effect

You’ll often see this effect in pricing models — one price point is intentionally included to entice you to choose the most expensive option. It is a cognitive bias in which introducing a third, less attractive option makes a more expensive product seem like a better deal than when there are only two products to choose from.

An example of using the decoy effect to influence consumer psychology

Say, a company offers a deal on a software bundle where you can buy word processing software for $100, a bundle where word processing and spreadsheet software together cost $200, or where spreadsheet software costs $175. The presence of the least attractive option — the “decoy” offer of the spreadsheet software by itself — makes it more likely a customer will choose the bundle.

Use the decoy effect in your advertising by grouping items into sets of three instead of two, with one option serving as the decoy. Display the pricing of the individual elements compared with the full bundle.

#5 Anchoring bias

When you’re researching something to make a decision on a complex issue, the first piece of information you receive is a sort of ‘anchor’. Once an anchor is set, all the new pieces of information are built around it. That being said, the first number (or price) you see changes your perception of any numbers that come after it.

An example of using the anchoring bias principle to influence consumer psychology

You can use this principle whenever you are running a sale. State the initial price of the product (therefore, set the anchor), and then display the sale price right next to it. You might even show how much of a percentage off your customers will receive with the sale.

#6 Priming

Have you already heard about priming? Now is the right timing. Priming can help you catch customers’ attention fully by small steps. Priming is the process of presenting someone with a word, image, or sentence that prepares them to be more receptive to a particular idea. Or, in our case, it means prompting people to take some smaller actions before making the final purchasing decisions.

An example of using priming to influence purchasing decisions

For example, you can ask customers to subscribe to your letters, follow you on social media, or download an ebook. These and other similar small requests can prime your audience to say ‘Yes’ later, when it comes to placing their orders.

#7 Color psychology

Color psychology is the study of hues that helps to understand, predict, and affect human behavior. In marketing and branding, specialists use color as a tool to persuade or influence us.

An table showing symbolic meanings of colors and matching them to brands

In fact, research shows that predicting your customers’ reaction to a particular color and its attitude to your brand is more essential than the actual color itself. Keep it in mind while you work on your design elements next time.

#8 Call to action

A ‘call to action’ (CTA) is a marketing term for any statement designed to reach conversions. The main goal of a CTA is to:

  • Trigger an immediate response from your customers
  • Encourage an immediate sale
  • Prompt any other type of conversion that you choose

An example of a call to action that can influence purchasing decisions

With a CTA, you’re requesting a potential client to act and providing the motivation to convert. We recommend you to try to implement this principle as soon as possible.

#9 Emotional marketing

Here, the strategy is to use emotional appeals to catch your customers attention, make an impression, and provide the opportunity to remember your product and buy it. The psychology of persuasion in emotional marketing is the key to success.

An example of emotional marketing appeal that can influence purchasing decisions

There are many different emotions, but eight primary ones are anger, fear, sadness, disgust, surprise, anticipation, trust, and joy. Every entrepreneur wants their customers to associate their products with positive feelings, so think about an emotion that could represent your brand.

#10 Information gap theory

The information gap theory suggests that when someone has a gap in their knowledge on a specific topic they are interested in, they will find a way to get more data .

An example of using the information gap theory to influence consumer psychology:

Marketing experts use this theory in content and social media marketing. For example, headlines such as ‘How to do something’, ‘The secret of something’, or ‘What you must know about something’ are all used to heighten your customers’ curiosity and make them want to learn more about the topic.

Summing up consumer psychology tips

By incorporating psychology principles into your marketing strategies, you can sway shoppers to positively view your products and your company. Apply the psychological principles mentioned above to your campaigns, and you’ll likely influence shoppers’ purchasing decisions and encourage more sales.

Have you appealed to consumer psychology in your ads? How did it work for you? Let us know in the comments!

How To Use Facebook Audience Insights To Understand Your Customers Better?

Are you going to advertise your dropshipping products to Facebook users? But how much do you know about this audience? In this article, I’m going to tell you about Facebook Audience Insights.

When it comes to advertising, one has to take care of two things.

The first one is how exactly you want to advertise your product. To succeed here, one must learn how to design eye-catching ads that can effectively convert users.

The second one is to whom you want to show these ads. No matter how good your ads are, they will be useless unless you target the right audience. Knowing what kind of people can buy your product defines how you communicate with them.

Fortunately, Facebook has a tool to help you with this.

What is Facebook Audience Insights?

Facebook Audience Insights is a free analytical tool in your Ad Manager that lets you learn more about your target audience. It provides valuable information on Facebook users who interact with your page, which lets you improve ad targeting. Marketers also use Audience Insights to better understand what kind of content your audience prefers.

To use Audience Insights, enter your Ad Manager and click on “Shortcuts” in the left upper corner. Scroll down to the “Analysis and Report” section. Audience insights will be there.

How to enter Audience Insights on Facebook

After clicking on it, you will see a pop-up window asking you to pick an audience type. The option called “Everyone of Facebook” will let you analyze any group of users. Advertisers mostly use this option to learn more about potential audiences.

“People Connected to Your Page” will analyze only those users who liked your Facebook pages. This option is useful when you need to better understand the people you’re already working with.

Audience Insights block that lets you choose between two audiences: everyone on Facebook and people connected to your page.

Audience Insights could be used to analyze custom audiences as well. But in 2018 Facebook removed this option.

Choose the options you prefer, and it’ll take you to the Audience Insights page.

Facebook Audience Insights: general demographics

On the left side of the screen, you will see a number of parameters that can help you customize the audience.

Use the Location tab to narrow down the audience to residents of a particular country, region, or city. In most cases, it’s no use targeting the whole world at least because people there speak different languages.

The Age and Gender tab limits the search to a particular gender or age range.

General demographics - Location, Age and Gender

The Interests tab is what can make your targeting more precise. Here, Facebook offers a wide range of hobbies, activities and topics, as well as popular TV shows, blogs or websites Facebook users show interest in.

Audience Insights demographics - Picking Interests

The next tab is called Connections. Here, you can limit the analysis to people “connected” to your page. It includes not only people who engaged with it, but also their friends. You can also exclude such users from the analysis.

Facebook Audience Insights demographics - Connections

Facebook Audience Insights: advanced demographics

The next few tabs let you customize the audience even further.

Such tabs as Language, Relationship Status, Education and Work are self-explanatory.

Advanced demographics - language, relationship status, education, work

Marketing segments let you choose between a number of demographic groups. The Parents tab lets you select people depending on how old their children are. Politics defines users’ political views.

Audience Insights advanced demographics - picking market segments, parents and political views.

Life events is an interesting tab. It divides users into groups based on what has recently happened in their lives. For example, people who have changed a job, or started dating someone, or moved in recently.

Audience Insights advanced demographics - Life events section

How to use Facebook Audience Insights in practice?

Ok, now! Playing with all these settings is definitely fun. But how exactly can you use Facebook Audience Insights to learn more about target audiences? I mean if I knew their age, gender, job and political views, I wouldn’t need any analysis, right?

The point is you set the parameters you already know to learn what you don’t know. Let me show you.

What if I want to sell drawing and painting materials in the UK? All I know about my potential customers is that they live in the United Kingdom and are interested in graphic arts. After I put this information into the fields, Facebook analyzes the audience and shows me the demographics I missed on the right part of the screen.

The information is spread across four tabs.

Demographics

This tab will break the results into different demographics. It demonstrates what ages and genders correlate with your settings; what part of the audience is married or not; what education your potential customers have, what profession they have, etc.

Facebook Audience Insights analyzes demographic data of the given audience

I didn’t know all that! But thanks to Audience Insights, now I know my customers much better. And there’s more to it!

Page Likes

The Top Categories section shows what Facebook pages people from this audience have liked or are likely to like. You will notice that not all of these pages are necessarily relevant to your business. After all, this is just statistics. Still, it can give an idea or two about what content your potential customers consume.

At the top of the Page Likes section of Audience Insights, you will find Top Categories block

Lower on the Page Likes tab, you will find another section with a number of metrics for the pages from the list above. The last one is called “Affinity”. It shows how likely this audience is to like a particular page compared to other Facebook users.

At the bottom of the Page Likes section, you will find more detailed information

Note that all these page links are clickable. This way you can quickly check if a page is relevant to your business in case you can’t understand its content by the name.

Here you can insert the page names you find relevant into the Interests tab on the left part of the screen and analyze the Page Likes results again. If you keep seeing the same links again and again, most likely your audience is really interested in them as different audience segments overlap here and there.

Later you can create an ad campaign and use these interests for targeting. One ad set per each interest. Although some of them (or even most of them) will fail, you will be able to find at least several good options.

After that, advertisers usually create lookalike audiences based on the winning ad sets.

Location

The location tab simply shows in which countries or cities most of these people live or what languages they speak. For a dropshipping business, this information can be useful only if you want to sell to more than one country. But in this case, you can simply pick the countries you need in the settings on the left.

The Location section shows where the people from the given audience live

Activity

The last tab in Facebook Audience Insights shows two graphs.

Frequency of Activities shows how many actions (likes, comments, shares, ad clicks and so on) the audience users took over the last 30 days. This can help you understand how active this audience is.

The Device Users graph shows what devices your potential customers used for accessing Facebook over the last 30 days.

The Activity section shows how often the audience performs certain actions and what devices they use

As you can see, Facebook Audience Insights can be a very useful tool. It’ll give you tips on how to better understand your potential clients, how to communicate with them and how to target your ads. How Tammy Runs A Business From Home In Australia: Newcomer’s Experience

What should you get yourself ready for when you run a business from home? Today, we’re talking to Tammy, a newcomer to dropshipping, who’s gladly sharing her ups, downs, and insights. From product strategy to advertising and customer service tips, there’s plenty of helpful details for those making their first steps in ecommerce!

Disclaimer: all the success stories published in AliDropship blog are the results of interviews conducted in the written form. Even though the editors may make some minor changes to the grammar, spelling, and/or punctuation, the respondents’ writing styles, views, opinions, stores screenshots and personal photos are left unchanged.

Hi, please introduce yourself!

Hi, I’m Tammy, a part-time liquor store employee from Australia, and I run a business from home in my spare time 🙂

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbjiizALAFI

I’m 26 years old and have always had just a standard casual or part-time job. My current half-time employment works for me because I love having a lot of time to myself to play video games, draw and read. Obviously, that doesn’t pay the bills though, so, I needed to find a way to make extra money while still having the luxury of having time for myself.

How did you start running a business from home?

It only began 6 months ago. Before this, I have never had my own business, as well as previous experience in marketing or ecommerce.

I was just doing some online research on the best ways to make money at home. As I just kept seeing the word “Dropshipping” everywhere, I decided to look further into it. After researching for so long, I told myself it’s time to bite the bullet and get into it. I was back and forth with other dropshipping companies, but after looking into all the pros and cons, chose the most fitting one with the best starting price.

I purchased AliDropship original plugin and set up everything myself by following the easy instructions. There’s loads of YouTube videos to help whenever I get stuck on something. I also eventually purchased a few of the add-ons to help increase sales, too.

How and when did your first sale happen?

It was in my first month (I couldn’t believe it)! I was shocked! The customer purchased 3 things and I panicked! Haha but it was super easy to process the sale so that felt great!

It gave me confidence to keep going. I didn’t get another sale for another month later, but I was honestly surprised the first one happened so quickly!

How does your business perform now?

Here’s how the things looked like in the first half of 2020:

How Tammy Runs A Business From Home In Australia: Store Performance Screenshot

I still have only 1 store, but I think I’m confident enough to open up another one, now, to double my income!

Sometimes I might have a day or 2 without sales, maybe even 3 days, and I start to lose faith in my business. I just tell myself that this happens from time to time and I just need to keep posting on social media to show everyone what my website has to offer. It usually works and then I get a sale!

What’s your product strategy for your store?

For my first store, I decided to dropship the items that I was interested in. I know that isn’t always a good idea, but I knew the genre well and knew how to advertise in ways that would entice myself to buy. So, to filter out the proper products, I just spent a lot of time searching for specific items and viewing all the reviews left for them.

After I added the first bunch of products to my store, AliExpress now knows what products I’m looking for. So, the platform recommends a lot of great items. A few times a week I’ll spend a while going through recommended products and making sure they’ve sold a decent amount so I know it’s popular enough to add to my store.

For pricing, I use the recommended formula I found on the AliDropship forum. I like to make at least AUD$10-$20 (Australian Dollars) from one item. Sometimes it can be more depending on the product. I found out that most of my customers are either American or British. And as their dollar is a lot stronger than Australian, they tend to spend the most at my store.

How do you promote your store?

Well, first of all, I read all of the emails from AliDropship that include tips on how to increase sales 🙂

Before I even made my first sale, I had made an Instagram account. I just started following people who are interested in the genre of products I am selling. I also made a Facebook account and shared my product posts in Facebook groups with similar interests. It has proven to be very successful!

Now, I’m pursuing the same strategy. I mainly promote the business with Instagram posts. Instagram is amazing for marketing a certain audience. I just searched certain hashtags related to my products and found out very quickly who was interested in the same type of things I was selling. So I followed a lot of them, and most of them followed back and bought from my store.

Every now and then I’ll also do a paid Facebook ad which also covers Instagram as well, and share my product posts in like-minded Facebook groups. Even though Instagram is the most efficient channel for me, I like that Facebook ads show up on Facebook Marketplace, inboxes, videos, stories and everywhere on Instagram as well!

Facebook marketing doesn’t cost a great deal. I usually spend about AUD$40-50 a month on ads, but then I’ll have a week or 2 with no ads to see the difference in sales. I’ve found that I get a huge increase in Instagram followers when I have an ad running, but the sales usually come from those who have viewed my website a few times and then finally decide to make a purchase. So my main goal is to build my following so I can create free posts to entice them.

In terms of daily management, how do you run a business from home?

In the beginning, I was spending around 10 hours a day on building my website. This definitely wasn’t necessary, but I had a lot of time on my hands and I just got carried away with the excitement of creating a cool website.

Now, I probably spend about 1-3 hours a day, just to reply to customer questions, process sales, check tracking and sometimes update things on my website.

The most time-consuming part is usually just replying to FB/Instagram comments and emails. My customers love the customer service I provide (as they’ve mentioned in my website reviews) so I like to make sure I reply to everyone. Sometimes, there can be a lot of questions and trying to find the right answers for every one can take some time.

When it comes to difficult customers, I just try to stay positive. I do get a lot of emails enquiring about when their package will arrive. AliExpress shipping can sometimes be quite slow, yeah. So I just make sure to be as positive as possible, apologise for any inconveniences and try to give them as much information as I can. They all usually understand and are happy to wait a while longer for their items.

Did the decision to launch and run a business from home change your life somehow?

Well, I was very excited to register my business officially, it didn’t cost much. Now, I have a lot more money to play with! I am saving money as well as spending on things that I’ve always wanted. My plans are to open up another store very soon! (Still tossing up between a few niche ideas)

My mother (56 years old) has just decided to purchase AliDropship plugin because of my success. She’s just starting out this month, but her website is looking great!

What can you advise our readers – those who already run their stores and those who didn’t start the business yet?

For those who already run a business from home – Keep going!! If you’re not making much sales just yet don’t give up. Don’t overcrowd your website with too many items. Make sure to have a social media presence! And the most important part is to know your target audience.

For those who haven’t started yet – It’s the best choice I’ve ever made! The hardest part of the whole thing is choosing what to sell, try not to delve into a niche that isn’t very popular, go for what sells the most on AliExpress and try to keep your website thematic. 🙂

This is most certainly an encouraging experience – and a highly detailed business strategy as well! We wish Tammy and her mother the best of luck with their newly launched ventures 🙂

Ecommerce Returns: How Do They Work In Dropshipping?

Properly managing ecommerce returns and refunds is certainly not an easy task. And many ecommerce entrepreneurs, both new and experienced, have to face this issue.

In this day and age, the ecommerce industry is flourishing and is becoming a regular part of everyday life, as more and more people are engaged in online shopping. Now, completing an online purchase is significantly more convenient than ever before. This is because many businesses are making an effort to make the purchasing experience more comfortable and advantageous for potential customers.

Different ecommerce companies are implementing various refund and return strategies to win over the customer’s trust. Naturally, this boosts the buying activity, which can only bring positive results for the ecommerce business.

Although this does have its drawbacks, let’s make one thing clear – refunds are not something an ecommerce entrepreneur needs to constantly stress about. Refunds and returns are a part of any retail business, regular or ecommerce. This applies to the dropshipping model as well.

So, in this article, we will discuss how to properly handle the issue of ecommerce returns.

The current state of ecommerce returns worldwide

All retail businesses encounter returns and refunds for a variety of reasons. As a matter of fact, about 30% of all ordered online products are returned.

Certain categories of products can have higher return rates and refunds than others. If you’re thinking of starting a dropshipping business, it’s useful to be aware of this. So, here are the categories with the highest refunds and returns rates:

  • Clothing and shoes (mostly, because the buyers choose the wrong size, and not because this niche is ‘faulty’ in general)
  • Electronics
  • Jewelry and accessories
  • Entertainment

There has to be some kind of cause for this, right? Based on recent ecommerce return rate statistics, here are the most common reasons why customers return their orders:

  • Received damaged goods
  • Decided the product didn’t match the description
  • Got poor quality items
  • Ordered more than 1 item
  • Had an issue with delivery
  • Changed their mind and wanted the product no longer

To avoid any inconveniences, dropshippers need to provide more information on the product, along with high-quality photos and images. Also, the store layout along with the product pages needs to be kept as simple as possible, so that consumers don’t make any mistakes while putting in an order request. So, make sure your customers have a seamless shopping experience.

This will result in customers being more informed about the product and making smarter purchasing decisions, which will lead to fewer returns and refunds.

Furthermore, keep in mind that consumers from different countries have different purchasing habits as well as return and refund habits. So, when you decide to target a particular country, closely analyse that country return rate and the reasoning behind it.

However, returns are bound to happen, regardless of how perfect you construct your online store and product offering is.

How to handle online shopping returns

Dealing with returns and refunds is certainly not a fun task, but it’s definitely not something you should constantly stress about. Returns are a recurring aspect in the retail industry, regardless of whether it’s an online or a brick-and-mortar store.

The refund and return process isn’t always a challenging thing to manage! Many entrepreneurs find creative and trouble-free ways to sort it out. If you’re wondering how other people are dealing with this business aspect, you are welcome to look at the experience of Kitty from New Zealand and see how she successfully handles returns and refunds in her store.

So, how can you prepare to this part of your business management?

Ecommerce returns in dropshipping

Considering you’re running a dropshipping business, your refunds or returns are going to look a little bit different from the traditional process.

In the traditional ecommerce business model, if customers aren’t satisfied with the received products, they simply return them to the seller.

However, in the dropshipping model, the returns management process is handled slightly differently. Generally, a dropshipping supplier is on the other side of the world. So, if for whatever reason the customer isn’t happy with the purchase, what do you do? Do you tell the customer to send the products back to China? Or to you?

Well, since you’re dealing with products that don’t belong to you, it might seem a little confusing on what course of actions you should take in case of a demand for a return. The key point to remember is that, since you’re a dropshipper, you don’t necessarily need to have your customers return their products.

Instead, offer to provide them refunds without returns. This solution works great for you, and your customer. Simply ask your customer if they’d want a full refund and tell them they can keep the received item.

However, before saying that, here is what your first need to consider.

Establish a clear returns policy

As we stated earlier, having a clear return and refund policy is a must for an online store. In fact, according to online research, 80% of online shoppers are scared away from a brand with an indistinctive return policy.

So, when a customer complaint arises, you can refer to your return policy to process the order. However, carefully choose the words you state. To ensure you provide a hassle-free return, be sure to ask your customers to tell you what went wrong and to send you a picture of the product.

Look into why the customer wants a refund or return

If you receive a customer complaint, you need to delicately ask why they want a possible return. Furthermore, remember to keep your tone apologetic and have a positive attitude. You want the customer to cooperate with you, and provide an explanation and, better yet, photo proof.

Resolve the customer complaint

Depending on the reason for the complaint, you should always consider a full refund. As you are a dropshipper, you definitely don’t want to spend extra money on the return of a product back to the supplier from a major online marketplace (most likely, AliExpress).

So, let’s look at the most frequently encountered reasons for a return or refund and what you should do in that situation.

  • The customer does not like the product

In this situation, you are unlikely to receive a refund from your dropshipping supplier. Simply not liking the ordered product is not a reason valid enough to get a refund. In this case, you have to decide for yourself whether to issue the refund or to deny the customer complaint.

Though, we would recommend to give your customer a full refund and move on. This may not happen often, but in case of good customer service, they might return for future purchases.

  • The product does not match the description/ is broken/ has never arrived

If your customer states anything of the above, simply ask politely for a photo of a faulty item and send the visual proof to your supplier together with a refund request. In case the customer claims the product has never arrived, check its tracking code to see if there are any package movements. Does it seem like your buyer complaint truly has a solid ground? Provide them with a full refund and don’t forget to apologize!

AliExpress has a strong buyer protection program with a full money-back guarantee. If for whatever reason your customer isn’t satisfied with the product, we recommend you get in touch with your supplier and try to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

If you weren’t able to talk with your seller, then you can open a dispute on AliExpress. Oftentimes, suppliers tend to refund inexpensive items quickly, without asking you to return the said items. They try to avoid disputes as it affects the store credit.

In the end, you can claim a full or partial refund for a product. For more details on how to handle the dispute, kindly go to this Knowledge Base article.

Final thoughts on how to handle ecommerce returns in dropshipping

Dealing with returns and refunds is certainly no easy task. However, when encountering this, you shouldn’t panic, as returns are a natural thing in the retail business. So, it is best to be prepared when you are faced with it.

Though, for a dropshipping entrepreneur, the task really isn’t as challenging. Bottom line is, one needs to have a clear returns policy so that if any inconveniences occur, the issue can be quickly resolved. Furthermore, make sure to always keep a level head and try to sort out any occurring issues politely.

Supporting Mental Health During COVID-19 Pandemic: Finding Balance In 2020

How have you been holding up this year? Today, let’s talk about supporting our mental health during COVID-19 pandemic. We believe it’s an essential topic to discuss with our dropshipping community!

2020 has been a curveball for all of us, an unpredictable roller coaster that started at a peak in January and unfortunately has just been plummeting downhill since March. The effects of COVID-19 continue to affect our everyday lives. Many people are still working from home, large social gatherings are limited, and thousands of students keep learning remotely. And although life has resumed to some normalcy in parts of the world, economies have tanked, case numbers are rising again in some countries, millions worldwide are out of a job (especially in the United States), and the spirit, morale, and mental health of people in general is in danger.

How can we overcome something that isn’t even near its tail end? Here are several strategies you can follow to adapt and adjust to the new environment, and find balance.

6 ways to take care of your mental health during COVID-19 pandemic

Start journaling

Journaling as a way to support your mental health during COVID-19 pandemic

What? A journal? Didn’t those things die in the late 90s? Maybe, but listen — writing down your daily thoughts and feelings can help, at least according to PositivePsychology.com. Journaling is a great way to see your goals, realize your thoughts and ideas, and help anticipate and plan events — which in turn can lower your stress and anxiety. For a year as wild as 2020, journaling will also help you look back on this crazy year someday in the future and see where you were then and where you are now.

Take online classes

Online learning as a way to support your mental health during COVID-19 pandemic

A popular pastime among young professionals and curious homemakers alike, take to the Internet to learn something new. In the year of lockdowns and stay-at-home orders, many have turned to online learning to better their professional skill set, fitness game, or home-cooking skills. Popular destinations such as Skillshare, YouTube, and Coursera have become go-tos for learning at home — from coding to how to bake the perfect porkchop to how to sew — everything is online. Note many institutions provide free trials that eventually require a membership. But paid or free, there’s no better way to make downtime productive time than with learning something new online.

Clean up your closet

Cleaning up your closet as a way to find balance in 2020

Yes, that dreaded chore your mom always told you to do growing up is something we suggest you start doing. And there’s a good reason (besides cleaning up your space): Psychology Today states that decluttering has been shown to boost levels of confidence and energy while lowering anxiety. When you tackle clutter, you are also freeing up your space for other storage or decor possibilities, which can open up the mental space for creativity. It’s like a physical-mirrors-mental kind of thing, and a great way to find mental balance in 2020.

Count your successes

Counting your successes as a way to find balance in 2020

In a global pandemic with unnerving news everyday, it can be hard to stay positive about the future. So go back to basics and make the little things count. For example, did you manage to knock out most of your assignments at work for the day? Did you have a meaningful Zoom one-and-one with your boss? Or did you actually complete that 10-minute workout today? Folded your laundry finally? It’s all about putting the small accomplishments into perspective and marking the smallest of victories. This over time can help you feel a sense of progress and accomplishment, which can in turn help you feel better in control of things despite what’s going on in the world.

Give in to self-care

Giving in to self-care as a way to find balance in 2020

In a time where emotions and moods can change day by day, we can only be beside ourselves at the end of the day. With the ever-changing demands of remote work, house chores, errands, and financial stresses, you can feel worn-out and defeated sometimes. That’s why we advocate self-care, which can be great for mental health. From a weekly face mask to soothe your skin to a daily meditation in the morning to find your zen, take time to care for yourself. Do something that makes you happy. Take an extra 30 minutes for lunch. Treat yourself to that Starbucks if you’re out running errands. Make the little things count to feel better about yourself and your day.

Connect regularly with family and friends

Connecting with family and friends as a way to support your mental health during COVID-19 pandemic

You may already be doing this, but do it regularly. Facetime your parents. Check in on your friend you still keep in touch with from your last job. Schedule dinner with some friends at a place where outdoor dining is available. Or plan to watch a Netflix show together through Facetime with your bestie. All of us have been limited in our social lives in some way due to the pandemic this year, but you can still find mental wellness in 2020 with regular interaction with loved ones.

With some patience and determination, you (and all of us) can make this rocky year a bit better. You can be more productive with your downtime to better your skills or mindset or use it to connect with friends or take time for yourself. It’s hard to be living through a pandemic, but you can always find ways to achieve a better sense of “normal.” We hope these tips can help uplift your spirits and help you find a better mental balance during this time.

Supporting your mental health during COVID-19 pandemic: final takeaways

This year hasn’t been easy on anyone. There’s a lot of stress financially and emotionally for a lot of people. Sometimes, it just seems like you can’t be in control of everything.

Still, there are numerous proven techniques to find mental balance in 2020! Whether it’s bettering yourself through online classes or documenting your thoughts everyday or taking an extra 10 minutes for yourself to relax everyday, there are ways for everyone to stay sane during this rocky pandemic. 10 Tips On How To Avoid Facebook Jail

Facebook is very strict with its users and businesses. If you break the rules, you can get into the so-called Facebook jail. Let’s talk about what it is and how you can avoid it.

What is Facebook jail?

The term “Facebook jail” is another way to say “suspension”. When you break Facebook’s rules, it suspends your account. It won’t allow you to do certain things such as publish posts, send friend requests, etc. The punishment can last from a few hours to 30 days.

People talk a lot about how strict Facebook’s algorithm is. Another problem is the fact that accounts get suspended automatically, by an AI which doesn’t always see who’s right and who’s wrong. It simply follows the program.

Users even created a few Facebook jail memes like this one:

A Facebook jail meme that parodies The Shawshank Redemption

After you do your term, Facebook will unlock all the functions. But there’s usually a 7-day probation period. During this time, you should be very careful. If it has already happened to you and you don’t want to get into “prison” again, you need to know what could make Facebook angry.

Here’s the list of what can get you into FB jail.

How not to get into Facebook jail

1. Don’t log in with previously banned devices

You have probably noticed that sometimes sites with serious protection send you emails saying, “You have logged in with an unknown device. Is it really you?”

Some sites, online games and social media track the devices you use. When Facebook bans an account, it also bans the device that was connected to it. Therefore, it’s not a good idea to use this device again for new accounts.

2. Never close the Facebook app on your smartphone

Another way to get into Facebook jail is to repeatedly close and launch the Facebook app on your smartphone. Actually, most people never do it. That’s why they never face problems like this. But if you’re one of those who hates it when an app is running although you’re not using it… then you’ll have to overcome this habit.

Facebook often bans such accounts because it thinks that you’re using an anti-detect browser. These are browsers often used by fraudsters to hide the “fingerprints” regular browsers leave behind. Simply stay logged in to avoid such suspicions.

3. Don’t suddenly change phone number, email and payment methods

Your account (profile and business page) is connected to a phone number, email and credit or debit cards. Sites use these details as another proof that you are actually you.

But let’s imagine you’re a bad guy! You somehow managed to hack someone else’s account. What’s the first thing you’re going to do? That’s right! You will change the phone number, email and bank cards.

When Facebook registers such actions, it can suspend the account.

In case you do want to change these settings, don’t use Facebook advertising tools for at least a week after that to let FB know that everything’s cool.

4. Use Facebook’s security features

Facebook actually takes great care of security matters. Sometimes even too much! But users can turn off some of these features (like 2 factor authentication). One the one hand, it’ll make access to your profile easier. On the other hand, it’ll motivate Facebook’s algorithm to become more suspicious.

So, if you can, keep these functions on.

Also, consider using the face recognition system on your account. With Facebook’s selfie-check function, it’ll be much easier to get your account back if it was banned. It’ll actually work even if face recognition is turned off, but worse than if it’s on.

5. Avoid getting into Facebook jail by helping it improve

You don’t want to get into Facebook jail? Then become an informator! FB tends to like those users who regularly report inappropriate content or behavior and rate Facebook translations.

But don’t get carried away! There is no need for constant reporting.

6. Keep up your regular activity to avoid getting into jail

As you probably know, Facebook gathers information on users’ activity – what and when they do and how often. Mind that you should keep your personal page alive even if all you want is the business account.

But there’s more! You can get into Facebook jail because you changed your behavior patterns.

For example, if you never liked posts in the feed and then suddenly started doing it all the day long, Facebook may consider this “unusual activity” and suspend the account.

It works the opposite way too! If you used to be active and then suddenly stopped logging in, Facebook can ban you as well.

7. Do not hide your information

If you’re not a criminal, you have nothing to hide, right? Probably, many of you will not agree with this statement… but it doesn’t matter because this is definitely what Facebook believes in.

If you clear your browsing history, or use a VPN service, or restrict your geolocation, Facebook’s bots become suspicious. It won’t necessarily get you into Facebook jail. After all, you actually need to clear the browser history at least once a year, right? Still, it can be one of the risk factors.

8. Don’t post prohibited content

Like many other social networks, Facebook doesn’t allow users to publish certain content types. The list includes nudity or sexually suggestive content, threats or hate speech, violence, and of course spam. Here’s the full list of forbidden content on Facebook.

9. Don’t send friend requests to people you don’t know

Social media let people connect, right. It’s true, but, at the same time, not all users like it when strangers want to be friends with them. There are many fraudsters and scammers out there who simply want to use you somehow.

If you start sending friend requests to each and every Facebook user, most of them will mark your invitations as unwelcome. As a result, the algorithm will put you in  jail shortly. So, before sending requests, talk to people and make sure your friendship is wanted.

10. Don’t let saboteurs get put you to Facebook jail

Sometimes businesses who compete with you can start reporting everything you do in order to put your account to Facebook jail or even get it closed. Even if you do nothing wrong, the amount of reports can be enough for the algorithm to do it.

If it ever happens, simply block such saboteurs so that they can’t even see your posts.

Whether you are going to build a dropshipping store from scratch or purchase a copy of a successful Premium Store from AliDropship, make sure you follow these tips to avoid getting into Facebook jail.

Christmas Preparations: 16 Steps To Start Taking Today

Ho-ho-ho! Christmas is coming!  It’s time for Christmas preparations that would make your ecommerce store ready for the holiday season. This is the magic time of year when you can make up to 40-50% of your store yearly sales!

People want to create a feeling of celebration around them, but often do not know what to buy or simply do not have enough time for this. Your task is to make everything easier for your customers.

Here you can find useful tips for Christmas preparations that will help you turn your store into a storehouse of gift ideas and create a perfect holiday for your clients. Keep reading to boost your sales! 🙂

Start your Christmas preparations with an ecommerce store checklist

The first thing we need to take care of before the Christmas season is the store appearance and working order.

  • Stay in touch

Christmas is a stressful time, so it is important to establish convenient communication with customers to reduce their worries. You can achieve this with the help of WhatsApp or other social networks or messengers where you can quickly respond to messages. Customers want to have contact with the store and keep everything under control.

  • Have a mobile-friendly store

An example of a mobile-friendly store

You are working hard on your store and we are sure that the last thing you want is to lose sales due to some small things. So, test the usability of your site in advance carefully and do not forget about smartphone users. Statistics show that more than 72% of customers make purchases from their mobile devices. Your store should be optimized for smartphones and tablets. Making the buying process as easy and seamless as possible is the key to maximizing your sales.

  • Add more reviews

93% of customers study reviews about the store and products before purchasing. So, take care of this in advance. Start collecting reviews after your customers have made purchases and have already evaluated your product. When a store has plenty of great reviews, consumers are likely to spend 31% more, so this is definitely worth paying attention to.

  • Introduce Christmas design

Christmas preparations: introducing thematic design

A good-looking Christmas-themed design will be a great way to inspire shoppers to buy from you. Remember that Christmas preparations don’t mean you have to do a complete website redesign! Just change your logo in a Christmas-inspired way a little and create themed banners. This will help create a festive atmosphere and motivate consumers to buy.

  • Create Christmas offering

Make Christmas-focused category pages. Thanks to this, your potential customers will easily navigate through your store and find all the best offers.

Don’t forget to add Christmas products such as Christmas clothes (sweaters, socks, soft slippers, Santa Claus outfit) and Christmas decorations (LED strings, wall signs, party supplies, tree, pillow covers, etc.): they will definitely keep your customers’ attention.

Try to use the right keywords for your headings, title tags and descriptions of pages, e.g. “Christmas gifts”, “gift ideas”, but remember that they should not compete with each other, so try to use different options.

  • Take care of stock & delivery

This is an important item on your Christmas preparation list. Make sure that your customers are aware of their packages’ delivery status as this increases their confidence level. And remember that during the Christmas season, there is an increase in shopping activity and some of your suppliers’ items can go out of stock unexpectedly. Thankfully, with the AliDropship plugin (or a ready-to-go store built with its help) you will experience none of these troubles! The plugin deals with tracking and product info updating automatically, keeping you safe from management worries.

  • Offer discounts

Christmas preparations: introducing seasonal discounts

Don’t start offering discounts too early. You will have time to get the full price for your products, because some experienced customers expect the maximum price cut. Give yourself a chance to earn more.

  • Plan out your return policy and additional payment options

Christmas is the time to think carefully about a more loyal return and exchange policy because it will help you be more competitive. Furthermore, now would be a perfect time to add new payment options for your store. This will help you increase your conversion rate and revenue easily.

Christmas preparations in dropshipping: what about marketing?

Don’t panic and prepare in advance! To get through this Christmas season easily and effectively, make an event calendar and mark all the important marketing events for boosting your sales. Which ones? Our checklist will help you out 😉

  • Provide guidance on gift-giving

Christmas preparations: creating gift guides for customers' convenience

Everyone has faced the problem of choosing gifts for family, friends and soulmates.

You need to eliminate the client’s pain. As a part of your Christmas preparations, create several blog posts with different categories such as gifts for parents, for a boyfriend, for a girlfriend, for friends, and include your products with detailed benefits. And believe us, sales will not be long in coming. You will not only increase the conversion rate, but also help customers with their choice.

  • Level up your social media activity

During this pre-holiday season, you can post whatever you want. The brighter your social media, the better. You can tell about your best offers, ask for customers ‘ opinions, discuss interesting Christmas facts, organize contests to attract a larger audience and share useful information. Don’t forget about the gorgeous Facebook video cover and you will be on top of these sales.

Besides publishing bright posts and asking questions about the holidays, try to engage your visitors. Increase sales through social media channels with the help of promo codes and special offers. Moreover, make sure to stay in touch 24/7 and answer any questions of your customers because they are going to come in dozens, and clients don’t tend to be patient at these times.

  • Upgrade your email marketing

Creating festive newsletters as a part of your holiday marketing strategy

What do you imagine when we mention Christmas email marketing? Are you going to write about SALES and convince the readers to buy children toys from you? Yes, these are the first things that usually come to mind. Unfortunately, such promotional emails are often considered as a grab for money. That’s why we offer you to stand out 🙂

First of all, there are three types of emails you can use. And we’d recommend you to start with blog emails. Once you complete your guides on gift-giving, don’t hesitate to share them through emails. You can send your subscribers a list of articles that you wrote or include some abstracts from your articles in the letters, and give people the opportunity to learn more about gifts and your products as well 🙂

Then again, we shouldn’t forget about those promotional emails. However, make them holiday-themed: use Christmas colors, elements of design, and make sure you understand what your customers feel. Most likely, they are overwhelmed with the holiday hassle. So, don’t try to sell something specific, but include some of your bestsellers that will be a good present to a boss, mom, friends, and so on. Tell your customers that you’re running a Christmas SALE and assure them that they will get the items on time (but be honest!) without staying in huge lines and fighting over them in brick-and-mortar stores.

One more thing that most of us may forget about is saying thanks to our subscribers. If you want people to trust you, don’t underestimate these small gestures. Send your clients warm emails about the passing year and give them promo codes as a ‘Thank you’. Also, wish them merry Christmas and fantastic holidays, and please, don’t include any promos in this email. People love sincere things 🙂

  • Create ads in context

Google Trends graph showing the rise of interest in Christmas gift ideas

According to eMarketer, Christmas day itself isn’t the only date you should consider. The upcoming days are the top spending days, so you shouldn’t miss this opportunity, huh? And the best way to take advantage of it is to launch Christmas ads.

It’s vital to make sure that that your ads are creative and really special. Use holiday stickers, Santa figures, idioms to set up the mood. Remember that video ads are the kings of engagement and reach, so don’t hesitate to use this format of advertising. You can include some carols, songs, and anthems in your video ads:  music is really something that makes people feel Christmassy! 🙂

As for targeting strategies, there are 2 options for you to choose from. For example, if you prepared some specific categories for Christmas, you can promote them using special interests: ‘Christmas’, ‘Christmas Market’, ‘Christmas Decorations’, ‘Christmas Gift’, ‘Gift’, etc. Moreover, Google Trends shows that people have started preparing for Christmas since September, so why not start right now?

However, those are not must-have interests if you want to reach your target audience. Some people already know what they are looking for, so if you promote a trendy bag, you can easily use the ‘Fashion Accessories’ interest in your holiday ads. Still, if you’d like to narrow your audience down to those who are interested in gifts, that is also possible. Choose a broad interest that engages lots of people, and then narrow it down with the help of the interests we mentioned above. Ta-dah, you have people that would like to purchase your product as a gift! (Make sure there are enough people to target, otherwise, it won’t work as planned, though). If you feel insecure about designs or ad targeting, you can always ask professionals to do that for you 🙂

  • Increase advertising budgets

As old fairytale villains say, everything comes at a price. If you’d like to enjoy this Christmas season as a dropshipper to the fullest, get prepared to pay for advertising to reach more potential customers. And strategically speaking, as we prefer to think ahead in AliDropship, we recommend reviewing your annual budget and tweaking some ‘slow’ months in favor of the upcoming holiday season.

  • Don’t forget about retargeting

An example of retargeting ad banner

Asking Santa for a higher conversion rate? One of the most efficient marketing strategies is to advertise your products and then use retargeting on those visitors who interacted with your website. This strategy doesn’t go only for a short-term period and is more than just a Christmas preparations tactics. You can use retargeting on those who visited your store a couple of months ago. Maybe someone saw a nice piece of clothing for a party or a cool gift for a kid, so now you can offer them to buy it with an awesome Christmas discount. Those people, probably, will not only buy this product, but also be grateful for such a suitable reminder.

In addition, don’t give up on this strategy after the holiday season. Retarget your Christmas customers in January. They may become your loyal clients if you managed to satisfy their holiday needs.

  • Use the opportunity to attract returning customers

An example of on-site pop-up

Once you invested so much in advertising, this is high time to magically turn your visitors into repeat customers (dropshippers’ bread and butter) or at least your subscribers. Use pop-ups, lead magnets, and loyalty programs to give yourself a chance to interact with your visitors or customers again with such a nice free tool as email marketing.

  • Prepare gifts for your customers

Christmas is one of the most magical times of the year and we always give to or do something nice for our family, friends, neighbors… So why not do something nice for customers as well? Partner with your supplier and offer your customers a small gift (Christmas decorations, gift cards, etc.) and they will be touched and remember your store for much longer than your competitors’. One more cool idea is to offer free gift wrapping, if possible, because most of people aren’t good at this and it would be nice of you to take care of your customers in advance.

Summing up your Christmas preparations

So, to wrap up, preparing for the Christmas season in advance is essential if you want to attract more customers and keep them hooked with an exceptional service.

If you are worried about your marketing, you can always get the help of our team with your holiday promotion. So, good luck and we wish you to have happy customers that will be glad to shop with you in 2021, too 😉

How Far You Can Go With Dropshipping Fashion Clothes: Arik’s Experience

What does it take to start dropshipping fashion clothes and accessories? Is it a profitable business to run, and what can you achieve with an online store in this niche?

Our today’s guest is a highly experienced fashion retailer who took his business online not so long ago. Let’s see how it works for him!

Hi, my name is Arik Azuelos. I am an owner and a manager of an online retail store in Montréal, Canada.

What was your background before you began dropshipping fashion items?

I was introduced to the fashion retail world by my parents at a very young age. In a way, I have been in the fashion industry since I was 8 years old.

As a grownup, I used to work very close to my parents as they built their stores from the ground up. I started as a salesman and a manager in my parents’ retail boutiques in Montreal and Florida. It started with men’s stores (suits, shirts, ties, sweaters, shoes and complete men accessories) and women’s fashion, from evening dresses to beachwear.

I became an excellent salesman and was quite efficient when it came to choosing new styles for each coming season as well for men’s and women’s clothing. I always had a keen interest in online stores but never knew my way around building websites or creating the traffic many online stores would need to succeed.

After becoming a customer of several online stores myself and gaining some shopping experience, I knew I could potentially grow in this industry. If I only applied all of my retail store manager expertise to the platform of an online store…

I’ve always had an undying curiosity to see how it all worked. Every time I would make a purchase myself from any of the online stores I buy from, the interest was there. It always seemed fascinating to me to buy an item online as opposed to buying in a store as my customers did every day. I had heard of dropshipping back in 2014 but it seemed complicated at the time.

What helped you make the decision to try dropshipping fashion clothes?

After that discovery in 2014, I became actually interested. To keep myself updated on future ideas with regard to dropshipping fashion, I subscribed to various email lists. I kept researching on how to find the best niche, where to source products to launch a successful store. That’s how I discovered AliDropship in 2018.

From what they were offering, I learned how to build and scale an online store that would suit my needs. With all the minor details taken care of, I could eventually build the business thanks to AliDropship plugin which I consider to be the key to my business success.

With AliDropship’s guidance I have been able to learn things about the online business I never thought I could on my own. And my online store knowledge and growth expands everyday as I continue to thrive and succeed just as my parents did in their retail business.

Do you remember the first sale made from your online store?

Yes, it was a month after my official opening. I worked endless hours selectively choosing, importing, editing and carefully managing my stores to look their best. It took me many hours and many questions on how to perfect my vision of the perfect store.

And several of my cousins, family members and close friends wanted me to succeed and were very impressed with my finished online store. So they decided to support me this way! They bought stuff they loved and kept encouraging me ever since.

It was pretty cool to see money appearing in my PayPal account. But the most awesome part was how easy it was to complete and fulfill the order since everything in the store was automated.

How does your business perform now?

I now own 2 stores. Don’t want to tell or show much, but the orders are flowing – that’s for sure!

How do you manage and promote your stores?

I rely on my own experience in retail sales and clothing to pick the perfect items. After trial and error, I went from a men’s store to a woman’s store because I felt women are better online consumers.

I search for suppliers consistently to meet my desired fashion tastes on AliExpress. Every day, I’m on AliExpress, looking for the products that have great results and great reviews.

It only takes me about 2 hours a day to manage my stores, though. During this time, I carefully select winning products, import them, edit their pages and plan the advertising. I promote the products on Instagram and Facebook, and it costs me about $100 per week.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about creating a contest on my Instagram page to win 500$ spending spree on my website. I look at it as a 500$ advertisement to create an even more exciting buzz to my existing store.

The growing competition in the women’s online shopping segment is the main and most difficult challenge for me. Still, I try to not get discouraged! I research and reevaluate what I’m doing, and then I target more specific women audiences. I’m lucky as I didn’t have any ‘difficult’ customers, but I would deal with them as I did in my retail stores: the customer is always right.

Did you register your business officially?

Not yet: as of now I only have a .com website. Still, I’m aware that registration is not expensive or complicated here. You just need to sign a few papers as part of an application, and that’s it. Incorporating a business is more expensive, takes a little longer but that would be the 2nd most effective way to grow your business.

How has your life changed?

I enjoy my dropshipping stores very much and I feel there is so much more to discover. For now, I would say I feel more experienced in the online business which is what I wanted for so long. As a future plan, I want to go to China for ‘product hunting’. The idea is to find the perfect niche item/gadget that is yet unknown to the public world at large. I receive continuous support from my friends and family: they think it’s great and they view it as a mini Amazon venture.

What can you advise our readers?

Find something – a product that you love to either buy or use – and make it into your own niche product!

For any person willing to start dropshipping fashion items, these insights are truly invaluable! We are grateful to Arik for sharing his detailed first-hand experience, and hope to see his business reaching new milestones.
