Ecommerce Testing: This Is Why You Need To Test Things Before Investing Money Into Marketing

From 0 to $59,600+ In 2 Years: How To Monetize Your Passion With Zero Ad Costs

If you’ve ever wondered how to monetize your passion, our today’s guest has some curious first-hand experience to share! This entrepreneur runs a business dedicated to something he’s genuinely interested in. And, judging by the track record of his business, this is a great strategy to follow!

Disclaimer: all the success stories published in AliDropship blog are the results of interviews conducted in the written form. Even though the editors may make some minor changes to the grammar, spelling, and/or punctuation, the respondents’ writing styles, views, opinions, stores screenshots and personal photos are left unchanged.

Hi, please, introduce yourself!

Hi, I’m Abderrahman, 30, a full stack developer from Morocco.

How and why did you monetize your passion?

I started as a freelancer in oDesk (Upwork) when I was 20. So, for about 10 years, I have worked as a freelancer, doing stores and websites for customers, working mostly 10-12 hours a day, and got really tired… Then I had an idea: why don’t I create a service/store that can generate money for me on its own?

At some point, I even tried crypto trading, but the market was unstable then, and things aren’t much better now. I invested $2,000 in it, but all I have from it now is $450! So… I needed to find something else.

And as I’m Anime addicted, I thought this is time for me to start something related to Anime. I decided to launch a store that would sell thematic products – not copyrighted items or replicas of the original merch, just some cute Anime-inspired things that would make fans happy.

To make such a store work, I looked for a WordPress ecommerce dropshipping solution and discovered AliDropship. Its WooCommerce version seemed like a right fit for me as it made things easy for everyone and didn’t have monthly payments: for someone who has just started, it’s a huge advantage.

Do you remember the first sale made from your store?

Yes! It happened in about a week after the store was launched. Shortly before that, I set up some push notifications on my site, and got some visitors – and eventually, customers – from them.

There was a person who asked me a ton of questions on chat support, then he disappeared, and after a few seconds I received a PayPal purchase notification, I was so happy! With a $8 product cost, my first sale brought me $4 in profit. I know it’s nothing, but it pushed me to add more and more products.

How does your business perform now?

I have 2 stores now: one is niche-specific and another one is general – it’s a new one.

Here are some performance numbers of my first store:

A store performance graph showing over $59,600 in gross sales in 2-year period

And here is the data on the organic search traffic:

Google Analytics graph showing the dominance of organic search traffic for Abderrahman's store

What product strategy do you use to monetize your passion?

I work with all sorts of products related to my niche: figures, decorations, clothes… To find new products to add to my store, I look for a specific Anime name and see if there are new product arrivals there. I try to focus on the products related to ongoing and new Anime series, as well as the most popular ones, because that’s what people look for. For the pricing, I go with AliDropship’s default markup formula.

How do you promote your business?

With SEO! I figured out that the best buyers are the ones who come from Google and search engines because they look for these specific products deliberately. As I use Google Analytics to analyse my audience, I can say that my buyers are mostly parents who buy gifts for their children. That’s why there’s no point for me to promote the store on Instagram or other social media. I tested an Instagram shoutout once, but it didn’t work for me. So yeah, I get most of my traffic from search engines (Google, Bind, Yahoo), from push notifications, and from social shares of visitors/customers. That’s why I spend nothing on advertising!

Also, at the beginning of my dropshipping journey, I was promoting my website on forums and in anime streaming websites. I was taking part in episodes discussion in the comment sections and forum boards, and offering a welcome coupon to new customers. Of course I was promoting items related to that particular anime being discussed. So, most of the visitors clicking on my links were truly interested to see the offers!

I also work a lot on creating a good on-site experience. As I was a freelancer for many years, I know what clients like when they shop online, what they don’t like, etc. This is why I created my own WordPress theme and some plugins myself: I wanted to achieve a better optimisation and user experience. I would say that my success is 80% due to the visitors loving the design and UI that is cool and easy for them.

What can you tell about managing your business on a daily basis?

It takes me about 1-2 hours every day to complete the tasks. What I do is search and add new products, process orders and answer customer queries. By the way, I strongly recommend business owners to use a chat support widget on their websites. For users to trust your store, they should be confident there is someone behind the monitor who can assist them and answer any questions at any time.

That’s what I do all the time 🙂 I constantly have to deal with AliExpress orders, lost parcels, delayed shipments, extended shipping times, etc. Now, it’s happening because of Covid as orders tend to be delayed and people keep asking about the reasons, ask for refunds, etc.

It still can be managed, though. I offer buyer protection and 60 days money back guarantee. If my clients don’t receive their orders, I refund them to avoid any problems because I believe customers must trust you. Then I ask AliExpress sellers to refund me, too, per AliExpress buyer protection policy. The funny thing is that sometimes I refund orders because of shipping delays, then my buyers receive their parcels in the next 3-7 days, and they say nothing 🙂

After you figured out how to monetize your passion, has your life changed in any way?

Of course! I don’t have to look for customers to work for them, or stay behind my PC 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. Now, I want to start boosting my second store with general products to make it a success, too. As for now, it seems a bit hard to do, but I view it as a new challenge for me!

Any final words of wisdom for those willing to start their ecommerce businesses?

The most important things in a store are the website theme and the niche! Look for a good and simple theme, avoid popups alerts and fake alert notifications or fake sales boosters, just be honest with visitors! I also recommend using some WooCommerce SMS solutions. If you send a SMS confirmation when order is placed, shipped etc., your store policy will look more professional and people will trust you more

Still wondering how to monetize your passion? Hopefully, these business insights serve as a great starting point for your first steps in ecommerce! We are beyond grateful to Abderrahman for taking part in our interview, and wish him the best of luck with his enterprise!

Best Dropshipping Examples: Stores That Make $40,000+/Month

The dropshipping business model is becoming widely popular and highly accessible, so it is important to understand what makes a dropshipping store successful. Is it the name? Maybe the provided service? Or even the design? Let’s try to figure it out based on the dropshipping examples AliDropship has prepared for you!

Often ecommerce entrepreneurs ignore the importance of an online store itself and don’t devote enough time to its technical development. They tend to focus on the promotional side of things, prioritizing offline advertising, and marketing through various social media platforms. Needless to say, by doing so they lose a large chunk of potential customers and therefore, profit. Furthermore, if your goal is to build a fully functional dropshipping store, or any online store for that matter, having a dedicated website specifically optimized for this purpose is essential.

So, what goes into a successful dropshipping store? It is unlikely you will get any real customers if you don’t have an attractive and professionally made online store. Having a unique and distinctive website marks your online presence and makes it easier for consumers to remember your brand. One thing you should keep in mind is that about 93% of online consumers consider visual appearance to be the most important factor upon making a purchase.

Therefore, in this article, we will examine the most successful dropshipping examples AliDropship has to offer. Let’s get started!

Dropshipping examples: the most important features of successful stores

What are the most important aspects of a website? It’s hard to argue that the most important aspect of a website is the template, or rather, the layout.

A smooth layout creates a coherent experience navigating through the website. The perfect layout possesses all the necessary navigational elements that allow your visitors to easily move around your online store.

However, your visitors won’t hesitate to leave your store if the website looks clumsy. You need to avoid the most common mistakes, like: information at the wrong place, the design is too dull or too bright, or the page is taking too long to load.

In fact, a great layout is closely linked to the user’s behavior on a website. A modern design can attract more attention and even improve your conversion rates. So, it is best to spend some time looking for or creating the best possible layout rather than losing potential customers because of an awful visual appearance. An informative and visually attractive layout is capable of engaging visitors into examining the site more thoroughly.

Now, let’s look at some of the successful dropshipping examples of AliDropship, which you can replicate and get a similar copy in a matter of a few clicks.

A dropshipping example of a general store: Buy It Carl

For our first successful dropshipping example, let’s take a look at our very own Buy It Carl. This is a general dropshipping store, meaning that it has a large product offering, not tied to a particular niche.

Just look at the homepage: we can clearly see everything the store has to offer. Every category is easily accessible which makes the site navigation look exceptionally great.

What’s more, the search box is located right at the top of the page. So, if your visitors are having a tough time finding some kind of product, they can search for it effortlessly.

Also, you can see the cart over on the right side of the screen, so you can be sure that your store visitors can always check what they have added to it.

Furthermore, the homepage screen shows all the offers right off the bat, to raise the interest of their visitors.

[slider_1]

If you look at the footer, it is perfectly organized, too. If a visitor needs some specific piece of information, they can find it here. From the contact information to company information and purchase info, there’s everything a potential customer might need.

Beyond this, every feature that a brand offers can also be seen, such as “Free returns”, “Free Delivery” and “Money Back Guarantee”.

Our successful dropshipping example of a niche store: Mr. Instrument

For our second example, let’s analyze our Mr. Instrument, a store that focuses on selling home improvement tools.

Like the store before, it has a cutting edge design that guarantees high conversion rates and many more beneficial features.

However, let’s look at what makes this store so great and at the main things that consumers come for when visiting a certain store – the products.

In this particular case, let’s look at how well the product page looks.

[slider_2]

As we can see, everything is in plain sight. There are lots of product images showcasing the product. Additionally, the product page has several purchasing options that are easy to read and comprehend. This makes the purchasing process much easier – a potential buyer can choose any color they like and however many items they need.

On top of that, there is a helpful indication showing the discount offer and how much the consumer will save.

All this adds up to a coherent purchasing experience.

Let’s not forget about one of the major features that sell products and depicts it in more detail – the product description.

If we look at the product description, it is carefully thought out and described with lots of examples that showcase all of the products’ qualities.

[slider_3]

Another inspirational dropshipping example of a niche store: Gardeniniet

And for our last, but certainly not least, dropshipping example, let’s take a look at our dropshipping store dedicated to home and gardening – Gardenient.

Now, what does everyone carefully examine before making a purchasing decision? Of course, the reviews.

[slider_4]

Reviews play a big part in a purchasing decision, as they show previous experiences of other customers. Seeing reviews with pictures greatly improves the chances of someone buying the product.

How to get a successful dropshipping store?

If you wish to have a store that will look like one of the stores on this list – you can easily have it! To fulfill your business idea, in just a few clicks, you can get an exact copy of these (and many other) pre-developed stores!

You will receive the exact same state of the art design. Well-thought-out product pages and descriptions will be yours to enjoy, too. And to top it all of, you will get a fully imported review section with lots of pictures and comments.

Secret Selling Techniques: 10 Dropshipping Dos And Don’ts

Hi! My name is Diana, and it’s my job to help dropshipping business owners promote their stores – so exciting! So, I see really lots of dropshipping stores on a daily basis, notice some things that would make them more money-making, and you know what? I can’t keep it all to myself anymore! I’m ready to share our little secrets: selling techniques that will help you get the most out of your business, make fewer mistakes, and get tangible results faster (money, yay!).

Below, you’ll find 10 dropshipping dos and don’ts. If you recognize any don’ts as the actions you once took, don’t get mad or sad! You didn’t have such an article to learn from before, you know 🙂 So, get ready to remedy the situation and follow these selling techniques to run your business more effectively.

#1 Don’t rely on email marketing or SEO only – run ads!

You won’t even believe how many dropshipping beginners get surprised when they find out that having a store is not enough to make sales. There’s nothing surprising about it: this is a truly comfortable thing to believe in that takes no effort.

But, in real life, things are not that airy and magical.

To make sales, you need to get people to your site. Almost force them to come! How? Target your prospective customers on Facebook and Instagram, offer them a cool deal and they won’t be able to resist!

Sorry if this advice seemed obvious. But I’ve seen so many business owners who underestimated the power of ads so I kinda feel obliged to remind you: RUN ADS. Please!

#2 Don’t abandon social media pages of your store. Publish posts regularly

Social media pages of an online store deserve our close attention

When I come across an ad, sometimes I go straight to the site, and sometimes – I visit the page of this store on Facebook/Instagram.

Why do I do that? Because usually online shops have nice, visually pleasing accounts where I can see the whole product range at once, prices, and even reviews of customers without leaving the app. So, store pages on social media are kinda prototypes of the store itself, just on different social media platforms.

I strongly believe that your prospective customers are no different from me. So make sure your store’s pages on FB and Instagram look great and present your brand and products properly – they are good assistants on your way to sales.

An empty account is a no go. Publish some posts telling about your products & their benefits and some entertaining posts. Yes, don’t forget about the latter! Having the “selling” posts only can make an impression that you push people to buy. While they need some kind of a relaxing vibe, be in a good mood and trust you to buy from you. So some nice entertaining posts will make them more loyal and ready for purchases.

#3 Don’t let your prospective customers slip away. Do some chasing!

“I run an ad, nobody bought from me, I’m giving up”. Come on! You got into ecommerce to win, not to lose! Moreover, there are so many selling techniques leading to victory – you just need to find out what tools work for you.

There are really many ways to chase people who have all the chances to buy from you!

1) Reach out to those who visited your store but didn’t buy – run remarketing campaigns. How? Read here

2) Send those people some promotional emails. But how to get their email addresses? Set up a pop-up on your site offering a discount that works for only 24 hours. What’s so good about a discount you say? Well, it’s a great way to inspire people to buy from you – they have to pay less (admit, you like doing it too) and they have to do it fast. Cool scheme 😉

3) Find your prospective customers using detailed targeting Facebook offers. And try different combinations of interests and locations. Do some research, and find out what offline shops your customers may visit, what they read, where they live, what they’re interested in and use all that info to reach them with ads.

There are many more selling techniques allowing to attract people to your store – e.g. ads on different social media, targeting competitors’ subscribers, etc. You can learn some from our special blog section

#4 Don’t keep the same product range forever. Be in constant search

Let’s look at the usual clothing stores you buy stuff from. Do they sell the same things all the time? No. Trends, seasons, even different situations in the world have an impact on stores’ product range. So, your dropshipping store has to conform to all that too! Moreover, trendy items sell better than basic ones.

What to do? Do constant research, upload different items that you see as very promising ones, be swift when it comes to trends or new customers’ needs (for example, people prefer buying eco-friendly and sustainable stuff these days).

To move is to live!

#5 Don’t neglect video format. Create video content

Video content plays a huge role in your online business promotion

Speaking about trends: nowadays, people are more prone to consume video format rather than usual images.

According to Statista, 54% of users expect video content from a brand or a business. 85% of Internet users in the US watch videos online from their devices. So, if video marketing is the future, then the future is here!

Let’s check if you are reading this article thoroughly: what do we do with trends? Right, we accept them and get the most out of them! So try adding more video content to your store and ads.

However, these were just general words that you can read all over the Internet. So where exactly you can use videos when it comes to your dropshipping store?

  • On your product pages: publish the video reviews of your products on YouTube and embed them into product descriptions. People really view those before buying, so we’d recommend to not only show the product, but to show it in use and to mention its benefits;
  • In your video ads;
  • On the homepage of your store (if your theme is designed with a place for it);
  • In your social media accounts.

#6 Don’t look at your store from a store owner’s perspective only. Put yourself in your customers’ shoes

It’s a common situation when you try to sell a product, have lots of traffic, but nobody buys. One of the reasons can be a too high price. So put yourself in your customers’ shoes and make sure that your product is what they can afford.

Imagine you’re a usual customer and you want to buy some new mugs in your kitchen-themed store. Will it be easy to find this product in the menu? Is it convenient to navigate through your store?

All in all, try to take an unbiased look at your store and make sure it’s the place where people will be eager to buy.

Some more questions you might ask yourself:

  • Are my store theme colors pleasant to look at?
  • Is the product assortment wide and well-organized?
  • Do the product pages look appealing? Do they tell enough about the product’s benefits?
  • Are there any customer reviews? Are they positive?
  • Is there all the necessary contact info, info about shipping?

Be unbiased about ads as well. Facebook always lets you preview the ad – so take a proper look and decide if you’d click on this ad. If yes, run the ad. If no, improve it or ask for the help from specialists.

#7 Don’t let your customers know that you dropship. Present your own brand

Yes, the majority of dropshipping entrepreneurs do know this “rule” but I’ve seen some cases when store owners call their store Super Dropship Store or even leave AliExpress sellers’ logos unedited in their product pictures. Once again, I do not laugh at those entrepreneurs and I always do my best to point out things they can improve. But I’ve seen what I’ve seen, and I really want you to avoid making the same mistakes while you’re figuring out the best selling techniques.

Why telling people that you dropship is bad after all? Well, this way you reveal that you’re a reseller, and people hate to pay more. So present the products that you sell as of your own brand if possible and properly edit product pages to eliminate all signs of AliExpress.

#8 Don’t avoid automation. Use smart solutions to save enough time to experiment with multiple selling techniques

AliDropship plugin is the perfect solution if your selling techniques require the use of semi-automated tools

Your money and nerves will definitely benefit from it, too 🙂

Want to motivate your site visitors to buy from you by giving them a discount coupon? Don’t send it out manually – again, use a pop-up on your site that sends out the coupon to every subscriber automatically. Or compile a mailing list and send out the coupon to your clients in one click. Mailchimp is the platform that we can recommend for that. If you need a hand, we’ll be glad to help you out with the pop-up or email marketing

Prepared some posts for social media pages of your store? Skip placing those manually, just put them into Social Rabbit’s Planner and let the plugin do the work. Social Rabbit has so many cool automation features! Check them all here.

Want to sparkle more sales by offering a gift for purchases over $XX? Dump adding that gift to every order by hand and use the Gift Box add-on which will automatically put the gift to the cart.

We can go on and on with the list of useful add-ons and their features that can save your time but we really have more stuff to tell in this article, so…

Check out the whole list of handy add-ons here and use them to get more money in less time (you’ll be surprised what wonders Facebook Business add-on can do).

All in all, why incorporate automated solutions in your selling techniques? Well, because the less time you spend on some boring work that machines can do for you, the more time you have to come up with promotional ideas, run and test more ads, find some cool new products and invest your effort into your business.

Plus, you can have more time to spend with your dearest and nearest or just to do what you love.

P.S. Don’t forget about automation features Facebook offers to advertisers – e.g. automatic placements, CBO, automated responses and others.

#9 Don’t skip seasonal sales. Seize the opportunity

When it comes to holidays and sales in their honor, people are ready to spend money online as never. So don’t miss the opportunity to get that money and sell the hell out of your store! All you need to do is just not to miss certain dates.

You see, sale offers look much more attractive when offered on some holidays. People often need to buy tons of gifts at that time, they suppose you offer the best, sale price and, you know, are all merry and under some sale fever.

What to do? Make plans according to the ecommerce marketing calendar, and always start preparing your store and promotional campaigns in advance to make it on time. Remember that you should take into account not only holidays of your own country, but the holidays of your target countries. Did you know that people give gifts on Ramadan?

#10 Don’t say “I don’t know” and “I can’t”. Be ready to learn

It’s motivation time!

All the successes of ecommerce entrepreneurs and huge numbers on their bank accounts are not pure luck – it’s the result of the hard work. So do you really think everybody knew how to run ads when they got their first online store? I sincerely doubt it. Did they know where to start? Don’t think so. But they believed in themselves, were always open to new knowledge and new experience and were not afraid to leave their comfort zone. And so can you!

So, what to do when you’re afraid to do something (start advertising, try new ad objectives, strategy, products, etc)? Do this exact thing.

Don’t know how to do that? Read our blog, watch our video course about advertising or YouTube channel, or at least consult the Internet. Yes, the latter is really full of sh*t on some level, but still it is a huge resource of educational materials that will answer your questions and will help you move forward to get profit at your dropshipping store 🙂

That’s it about selling techniques. Hope you liked the article! And you know what? I believe in you, and I’m sure you and your dropshipping store will be so successful! All you need to do now is to act, learn and put some effort which will definitely pay off. Happy dropshipping, everyone!

a picture that shows that you should think of affiliate marketing strategies during holiday season

We have already mentioned that holiday seasons hold an enormous potential for both ecommerce entrepreneurs and affiliate marketers.

Just think about it yourself: holiday seasons are always characterized by the intense activity of both online and offline shoppers. And this is pretty logical since most of us are fond of buying gifts in order to make our family members, relatives, friends, and coworkers happy. Aren’t you? In some countries, this is even a traditional norm!

Hence, we can observe impressive statistics on the holiday season over the past year. Just take a look and reach conclusions yourself.

  • Holiday season retail ecommerce sales are over $135 billion
  • Mobile retail ecommerce sales during the holiday seasons are over $60 billion
  • Annual growth of holiday season retail ecommerce sales is about 13% and rising

Seems impressive, doesn’t it? Moreover, it’s about the US only!

Best affiliate marketing strategies: what should you focus on?

an image showing the best affiliate marketing strategies to follow

In fact, there are lots of ways for you as an affiliate marketer to generate leads and increase commission. Here are the ones that, we believe, proved to be the most efficient!

Tip #1: Use blogs

Well, what do you think, how people look for gift ideas, learn about discounts and special offers? Right, they learn about that on the Internet! So why don’t you benefit from this?

The first tip is extremely simple – use blogs. Seriously, use blogs! In practice, this is one of the most affordable, meanwhile, efficient tools for lead generation and therefore earnings growth.

In fact, you can easily count on several benefits if you start to use blogs actively. And this is at minimal cost! Consider this yourself: unlike the paid ad campaigns on Facebook and so on, blogging can be absolutely free-of-charge for you. What’s more, you don’t need to spend lots of time on it. According to the statistics, one article per week is enough to succeed.

How to use blogs right? This is very easy!

  • Discuss what you’re promoting
  • Explain why you’re promoting this
  • Consider SEO
  • Share your posts on social media

Tip #2: Employ email marketing

If speaking about affiliate marketing strategies, are there any other powerful tools for lead generation and commission growth? So it’s high time to pay attention to email marketing!

Along with other marketing tools, email marketing proved to be extremely efficient in ecommerce. Just imagine that there are about 3 billion email users in the world! So why don’t you gain from this?

Well, if you want to make the most of email marketing, here are some tips for you.

  • You need to send a holiday email at least a week in advance
  • If you have a broad email database, you can use email marketing platforms to save your time
  • Put a coupon at the end of email

Tip #3: Use SMM wisely

SMM is also one of the most powerful channels of generating leads and increasing your affiliate commission. However, when we recommend that you use SMM, it doesn’t mean you need to create accounts in social networks and that’s it. SMM is something greater.

So the cardinal rule of SMM is to be active online. Just imagine that 41-78% of European citizens were going to do holiday shopping online last year. And overall holiday season retail ecommerce sales amounted to more than $130 billion. Sounds impressive, doesn’t it?

So how to be active online? In fact, there is nothing challenging about it. You should post content, leave comments, etc. So do everything necessary to expand the number of your followers. And later, it won’t you who will work for your social media accounts, but social media accounts who will work for you!

As we have already mentioned, it’s not difficult to manage your social networks accounts. However, you will need to spend some time on it. And since SMM is not the only aspect you should focus on, we would recommend that you consider using software for SMM automation.

What software to choose? Well, pay attention to Social Rabbit. It lets you put SMM on autopilot. Meantime, it will look like a whole team of experienced professionals work on your social networks.

Tip #4: Run giveaways

So why should an affiliate marketer run giveaways? Is it true that this affiliate marketing strategy can help you generate leads and increase your affiliate commission? Let’s figure that out.

Well, many people believe that running contests is disadvantageous since you need to spend your time, effort, and, most importantly, money on it. However, this is not right actually. Here is why:

  • First of all, if you want to run a giveaway, all you need is to think of its conditions (follow your social media accounts, leave a comment, share a post with friends, etc.) and ensure an award.
  • Beyond this, you don’t need to spend $1 million on this. It’s a great idea to choose a prize from the products and services you are promoting. And don’t forget to involve the merchant in this process. In that case, it will look more authentic. Moreover, it will not affect your budget.

So run giveaways, inform your followers about this, increase your client base, etc. This is really one of the most powerful affiliate marketing strategies to increase your earnings.

Tip #5: Offer discounts

And now let’s discuss the tip of the iceberg. How to convince your audience to make a purchase? Right, one of the most effective measures is suggesting a coupon or promo code. It really works!

Actually, lots of companies launch sales during holidays. And AliDropship is not the exception. For example, we are always ready to provide you with large discounts on dropshipping stores, dropshipping automation systems, and marketing services. So it remains for you only to monitor the emails!

Meantime, if you want to offer something unique, you can contact the Affiliate team at any time and ask for a coupon with a special name. In that case, your followers are highly unlikely to lose it!

How can you benefit from the AliDropship Affiliate Marketing Program?

a picture showing the benefits of AliDropship Affiliate Program

What Are The Benefits Of Advertising Online On These Popular Platforms?

Which is a benefit of advertising online? In this article, we’ll talk about why your business (be it a traditional one or an ecommerce store) needs digital marketing.

Any business wants to promote products or services in order to raise sales. Before the internet, companies had plenty of promotion channels such as TV, radio, billboards, magazines, cold calls, etc. Many of them stay effective even now.

But with the internet and ecommerce evolving, marketers develop new techniques and explore new promotion channels. So, which is a benefit of advertising online and what can different channels offer your business? In fact, there are at least several benefits!

Benefits of online marketing

1. You can pick a relevant target audience

If you compare traditional marketing vs. digital marketing, you will see that this is a huge benefit of advertising online.

For example, if a company advertises female clothing with a TV commercial, half of the audience are going to be men, i.e. people who are not necessarily interested in this product. Same goes for other demographics such as age, interests, profession, etc.

Digital marketing offers a lot more tools and methods to target specific audiences. It increases the conversion rate and cost efficiency of your marketing efforts.

2. Better analytics

Offline retailers have been trying to analyze their customers since long ago. Although many of these attempts were successful, they don’t beat the amount of information digital marketers gather.

Online analytics can tell you which ads brought particular potential customers (by analyzing traffic sources), how long site visitors stay on certain pages, what buttons they click, etc. In other words, online advertising also analyzes customer behavior, which makes your advertising efforts more effective as you gather more data.

3. Affordability

Another important benefit of advertising online is the fact that digital promotion is considerably cheaper than traditional channels. And it’s not about you getting to save a couple of bucks!

Since digital ads don’t require large budgets, even small businesses like dropshipping can enter markets and earn their share of profit to start growing.

4. Speed

Most traditional advertising methods require time. A TV commercial, a magazine ad, a billboard – often you need at least several weeks to get your ads running. But in online marketing, things happen much faster. For example, if you have all the required materials, you can start promoting products or services on Facebook within 24 hours.

Moreover, in online advertising, business owners can quickly change budgets, thus reacting almost immediately if necessary.

In addition to these general benefits of advertising online, various channels offer their own advantages. Let’s analyze them.

Which is a benefit of advertising online with Google Ads?

advertising online with Google Ads

1. Large audience

Advertising is always based on the law of large numbers. The more people see your ad the more conversions you get. This is why it’s important how many potential customers you can reach with a particular advertising channel.

Google processes over 3.5 billion search queries daily. Of course, most of them have little to do with your products, but the number is still impressive. Besides, one can also advertise on Google’s other platforms, namely YouTube and Gmail.

2. High relevance

All digital ads target people who are likely interested in a given product or service. Whenever you see a banner on a random site, there’s a chance it’s advertising something you have searched not long ago.

However, Google’s search ads are much more relevant for users because these ads show up as a response to users’ search queries. In other words, products are advertised to people who are looking for these products and online stores where they can buy them right now.

3. Pay per click

When you advertise online with Google Ads, you only pay for the number of clicks. So, if nobody clicks on your ads, you won’t have to pay.

This might be a minor benefit, but compare it to traditional marketing methods. For example, if you pay for a TV commercial, the price won’t change no matter how many people see the commercial, contact you and purchase your product.

4. Remarketing

Another benefit of advertising online with Google Ads is the fact that the platform provides remarketing tools. Since the percentage of site visitors who actually buy products is very small, businesses need to reconnect with those who left the site. Thus, remarketing can contribute the overall sales.

Which is a benefit of advertising online with Facebook?

1. Large audience (especially mobile)

Facebook has over 2.7 active users as of the second quarter of 2020. 79.2% of these users access Facebook only via mobile devices, which is extremely important for ecommerce businesses as more and more people interact with brands and shop by using smartphones.

2. Communicating with potential customers

Although today many social media are used as advertising platforms, their primary goal is communication. By creating business pages on Facebook, entrepreneurs can communicate with their target audiences to better understand their needs. Besides, it’s an opportunity to show everyone the human side of your business.

3. Accurate targeting

Facebook’s algorithms are quite good at targeting audiences who are likely to get interested in your products. You can also pick from a wide range of Facebook interests as well as use detailed analytics to improve your targeting.

Which is a benefit of advertising online with Pinterest?

advertising online with Pinterest

1. High purchase intent

Pinterest is a social media that focuses on sharing images. Since the platform’s users see a lot of visual information, they are more willing to buy things from Pinterest. 84% of Pinners use the platform to decide what to buy, which makes it a natural promotion channel.

So, for niches that use visual information actively, Pinterest can be a very attractive platform.

2. Pinners want to discover new brands

People often use Pinterest as a platform to search for new ideas, products and services. 75% of Pinners say they’re “very interested” in new products compared to 55% on other social media platforms.

3. Over 2 billion monthly searches

Since there are so many users interested in unbranded stuff, the number of monthly searches on Pinterest exceeds 2 billion. From this perspective, the platform can be used by businesses to drive traffic to their pages and convert visitors into active buyers.

Which is a benefit of advertising online with Twitter?

advertising online with Twitter

1. Pay per click

Just like Google Ads, Twitter only charges you for desired actions, i.e. only after a user subscribes to your account, engages with your tweet or installs your app, etc. This way you don’t have to worry about money being spent for nothing.

2. Affordability

The average cost per click on Twitter equals $0.38, which is lower than prices on other popular social media.

3. Accurate targeting

Unlike Facebook, Twitter allows advertisers to target audiences by keywords and hashtags, which increases the accuracy of your campaigns. One can also target people who recently saw or engaged with one of your tweets.

Which is a benefit of advertising online with AdRoll?

advertising online with AdRoll

1. Can run ads on social media

AdRoll is a marketing platform similar to Google Ads. However, unlike Google, it is capable of running ads on social networks such as Facebook and Instagram, thus benefiting from all their advantages.

2. Newcomer-friendly

While Google Ads is designed for entrepreneurs familiar with online advertising, AdRoll is more newcomer-friendly. The platform’s team can even help clients create ads for any campaign.

3. Great remarketing potential

One of AdRoll’s strong areas is remarketing. The platform is capable of collecting data and following users who visited your online store through a wide database of websites. It can also be used for retargeting email campaigns.

Which is a benefit of advertising online? As you can see, in addition to general advantages, different advertising channels and marketing platforms provide businesses with a huge variety of tools and audiences to suit your business should you decide to launch a dropshipping store.

How To Promote Your Business On Instagram In 2020: 7 Best Free Methods

Wondering how to promote a business on Instagram without spending much? Check out these beginner-friendly ways to advertise your store efficiently – and cut down your marketing expenses!

Instagram is not just a social network for posting pictures of your pets or sharing photos of your lunch.

If you run a dropshipping business, Instagram can become a powerful promotional tool that costs you little to nothing!

These days, Instagram is widely used in the ecommerce industry. It is obvious why by looking at the awesome features of this social network:

  • Free to use
  • Allows easy visualization and demonstration
  • Helps raise awareness about your store seamlessly
  • Establishes a source of communication with your customers
  • Allows you to find and reach a new audience
  • Serves as a platform for posting your ads and announcements

We have already discussed the strategy of promoting a dropshipping store through Instagram shoutouts. As you probably remember, it is a really efficient method. Using shoutouts for our own store, we increased the number of purchases 65 times in 2 months.

Nevertheless, shoutouts are not the only way of using Instagram for marketing purposes. In this article, we will briefly explain and illustrate the basic aspects of working with this social network without any extra costs.

[content title=”Table Of Contents”]

1. Creating an appealing bio

Well, that’s the basics.

Your bio is the first thing that your potential customers see. It’s the main source of the information about your store and its terms of work.

What can you do with your bio to generate more sales?

  • Specify your business activity

What does your store sell? What makes it special? Make a short description that explains your main area of business, and mention the major types of your products. It is a good idea to use emojis as text dividers – they will highlight the main ideas in the text.

  • Write the contact info

Along with the store address itself, mention its phone number, email address, WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook account, etc. All these channels must be relevant and working! If you don’t check them or if they are inconvenient for you, don’t include them in the list. Your account visitors should be able to contact you if they like, and easily get answers for their questions and comments.

  • Use hashtags

It is typically recommended to include your main hashtag in the bio. That’s how your clients will know which hashtag to put in their posts if they want to share their experience. You, in turn, will be able to monitor reviews and use them to boost your dropshipping business.

In fact, the length of your account bio should be about 140-160 characters. Don’t write less than this: newcomers should be able to understand what you offer and how they can get in touch with you. Don’t write more than this: your account visitors will be overloaded with information and most likely, they will overlook some important details.

2. Adding hashtags to promote business on Instagram

We already mentioned the importance of hashtags in the previous section, so let’s take a look at them in more detail.

Generally speaking, hashtags perform several highly important functions:

  • They help you reach a wider audience and get new customers

If you add several relevant and popular hashtags to every post you make, these posts will be seen by Instagram users who look for something specific. That’s how you can make people aware about your business, and get their attention! Still, you need to be careful with the amount and contents of the hashtags you add. The hashtags must be directly related to your offers. Don’t forget that too many hashtags look like spam and annoy your subscribers.

  • They help you track customers’ reviews

These reviews can later be used for a range of purposes in your dropshipping business. For example, you can learn if your customers are satisfied with the purchase and the service – such knowledge is helpful if you want to improve the quality of your work. Also, these hashtags will increase awareness about your store among your buyers’ friends and readers. Finally, you will be able to repost these publications into your account – they will serve as honest and real proof of your store’s top quality.

  • They help you structure the content within your account, and make it easier to navigate your page

In the dropshipping business, this is really important: since you can offer numerous items that refer to various categories, it should be easy and convenient for your clients to look through these offers. Hashtags will help your readers filter the items by different criteria: specific product type, newest arrivals, items on sale, special offers, etc.

  • They help you build your brand identity and stay memorable

If you have some main hashtag that is built upon your brand name or slogan, people will remember it and use this hashtag to find your store once again or to recommend it to someone else. In this case, your hashtags need to be unique.

Can you promote a business on Instagram without using hashtags?

If you want your customers to be okay with all the hashtags, don’t include them in the text of the post. There are several ways you can make them less noticeable and not so eye-catching.You can also put them in the first comment, or at least you can separate it from the main text using emojis, other text dividers, or just blank space.

Furthermore, you can hide them entirely! How, you may ask? After you’ve published your post, add a comment to it. You can comment anything, but let’s keep it nice and simple by putting an emoji, any that you like.

After you’ve commented on your post with an emoji, use the reply feature to write under your own comment. In that reply, you can insert all the hashtags you like!

So, in essence, under your post, you will see your own comment and a reply to that comment that includes your hashtags.

And now, for the best part.

Delete your comment! The initial one, with the emoji. Your reply with the hashtags will also disappear but do not worry, they will remain in the posts data. So, essentially the hashtags are there, although not visible, they will continue to work as other hashtags, promoting and boosting your content.

3. Setting up automatic services

Promote Business on Instagram using Social Rabbit plugin

If you run your Instagram business account with due patience and attention, it takes tons of your time.

Just imagine how long it will take you to think of a nice post idea, edit pictures and videos, create a post, answer all the comments and direct messages, etc.

Why waste your time on this when you have much more important tasks to do – improve your customer service, search for new suppliers and add new items, optimize your dropshipping store, and many more?

To plan your business activity in a more rational and thoughtful way, go for any automated service you like. Most typically, these plugins and special tools allow you to:

  • Plan your posts;
  • Monitor comments;
  • Search for hashtags.

Personally, we would recommend you to check out the Social Rabbit plugin – we had a satisfying experience with it, and thanks to the plugin, we managed to get 66,000+ followers on our Hokage Store Instagram account.

Technically, the Rabbit is not a free plugin. Still, it’s much cheaper than most of the similar tools. Moreover, if you just think about all the time and effort you will have to devote to Instagram posting, you will definitely say that such a small cost for an automated solution is just fine.

Basically, Social Rabbit is a WordPress plugin that makes it possible to run and promote your dropshipping store social media accounts automatically. It works with 4 major social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram) and potentially can cover the audience of up to 2 billion people. Furthermore, the Rabbit creates posts with the use of pictures and phrases that you specify, likes and comments posts, grabs and reposts publications from selected social accounts, and in general spreads the word about your dropshipping business across the most popular social networks worldwide.

4. Adding posts manually for Instagram promotion

Automatic posting is awesome – it saves your time and effort and lets you manage other areas of your dropshipping business.

Still, the posts you create manually are also an important part of your marketing strategy. Such posts make your account look more ‘human’ and customer-oriented. Besides, people prefer interacting with humans, and not with some soulless bots, right?

For this reason, we try to mix automatically generated posts with something unique that we create ourselves. For example, on the picture above you can see an example of a post that we made to share our own business experience and help out ecommerce newcomers.

5. Posting videos

Videos run the world.

No, seriously.

In the dropshipping business, videos become an increasingly popular type of informational content because they are just really cool:

  • They tell A LOT about your product . You can show the item from any angle you like, and demonstrate how to use it in real life. This is crucial for online purchases because your customers basically can’t see and touch the item – while making a decision, they can only rely on the information you have provided.
  • They are engaging and fun. We mean, if your video is catchy, chances are your subscribers will share it. And that’s a nice way to increase awareness about your dropshipping store!
  • They are personal. You don’t have to limit yourself only with the videos showing how to use your product. Why not film a short ‘behind-the-scenes’ video showing the backstage of your work, or, for example, telling your customers how to choose this or that product?

Speaking of personal experience, it’s necessary to mention customer reviews! If you manage to find a review in the form of a video (unpacking the delivered item, demonstrating the item in use, etc.) – share it with your audience! It is real, it is visual, and it is really engaging.

6. Exploring Instagram galleries

[slider_1]

In the beginning of 2017, Instagram presented a new fun feature – a so-called gallery. It means that you can put up to 10 photos or videos in a single post.

This is exceptionally useful for Instagram accounts related to ecommerce in general and dropshipping business in particular. Now you don’t have to waste your time and energy on creating collages. Moreover, you also don’t have to spam your subscribers’ feed with multiple similar posts.

How can you use galleries in the dropshipping business?

  • Show several products at once

If you want to tell your readers about new arrivals, present a thematic collection, announce a sale on a certain product category, etc., just combine the relevant images into a single post. Nothing will be overlooked, and you won’t annoy the readers with numerous look-alike posts appearing within a short period of time.

  • Create lovely shoutouts

The idea is the same: you place a pre-paid post in someone else’s account, and, thanks to the gallery feature, you can advertise quite an impressive number of products in a single post. It will look stylish, professional, and catchy.

  • Show a product from different angles

It can be a nice alternative to a video – if you want to show some yummy details of an item, just make several high quality photos of and combine them in a single post.

7.  Going for Instagram Stories to promote your business

[slider_2]

[slider_3]

Traditionally, people use Instagram to post carefully selected pictures and videos. Users share the most beautiful scenes, the most important moments, and the most meaningful events.

Instagram stories work a little differently – they disappear in 24 hours, and they are only shown to a selected category of subscribers. Basically, users don’t feel much stress – they freely post whatever they like, and they are really relaxed about it even if the photo quality is not too high, or their face looks funny, or whatever.

So, we can say that Instagram Stories serve a different purpose. they allow to share ordinary everyday life, contrary to traditional ‘glamorous’ Instagram posts. However, what does it mean for dropshipping businesses?

Trust and emotions.

Basically, you can make your readers interested by creating a more personal and human-like brand image.

When you experiment with the content by adding emojis, drawings and text to the story, you turn it into some kind of a private message filled with emotions. That’s a way to build a loyal customer audience.

Also, as you can see on the picture above, you can use stories to interact with your readers. If they want to share their reviews or repost your publications to take part in some contest etc., but they don’t want to ‘spam’ in their own feed, offer them an alternative. Ask them to use stories for this purpose, and everyone will be happy.

Do you use any of these tips to promote business on Instagram? Do you like the results? Or maybe you know a couple more secrets? Feel free to share your experience in the comments section below!

Life After Starting An Online Retail Business: Where Can Your Ecommerce Journey Take You?

When starting an online retail business, what should you expect your life to become? Today, we’re talking to Angel, an online business owner from Bulgaria, who is now able to pursue bigger dreams thanks to his venture.

Hi, please introduce yourself!

Hi, my name is Angel, I’m a digital marketer from Bulgaria.

Since I moved to Varna to study Computer Science and Technologies and started to learn the basics of programming, I realized this is not for me and decided to start applying for all suitable jobs. I got hired by an US company with an office here in Varna where I learned to create WordPress websites and do basic SEO optimizations. I even tried to do business, but didn’t like the Bulgarian market and moved to work for another big company doing SEO and Digital Marketing, which I am still working in.

So, it’s safe to say that by the moment I was starting an online retail business, I had enough experience in creating WooCommerce and OpenCart stores, though there wasn’t much experience in the actual digital marketing.

And what’s your story of starting an online retail business with these skills?

In mid-2017, a very close friend of mine shared his plans to launch a dropshipping business. I liked this particular business model because it requires not that much money to start, no warehouses or stock monitoring, etc. So I started looking into the opportunities, too.

I love working with WordPress and WooCommerce, and I was googling a lot to find a proper solution. There were several options I tested, and in terms of WooCommerce and AliExpress dropshipping functionality, I liked AliDropship plugin the most.

It proved to be really helpful later on. Can’t imagine if I had to manually check and sync stock. Same goes for the products uploading and all the other automated things. Besides, the built-in premium themes I use give me what I need (at least for now).

How did your first sale happen?

I still remember that first PayPal notification I saw! Felt like I got a big shot of adrenaline.

It was really cool to see the business finally started working. To be honest, it happened not as soon as I expected. It took me over 4 months to find the right products and to show them to the right audience.

How does your business perform now?

Currently, I have 2 stores. The first one is on hold as for now, and the second one is giving me a good passive income. The average gross sales per month are $892 with no ads running.

Starting An Online Retail Business In Bulgaria: A Screenshot Of The Store Performance Data

What was your product strategy when you were starting an online retail business?

I have a small 1 year daughter, and I think this tells why I decided to go with that specific niche I’ve chosen 🙂

To pick products, I was following AliDropship tips: I was entering the keyword in the AliExpress search field, sorting the products by the number of orders, and checking the reviews.

Then, I was focusing on the products that seemed cool to me personally. I reviewed their pages manually and checked the sellers’ stats. Also, it’s a good idea to check the related products: this is how I found some of my best selling items.

Now, I keep adding new products to my store from time to time. Usually, I add many products to my AliExpress wish list from my phone during the day when I have a moment. Then, after work, I review them on my PC and group them in wish list categories. It’s closely related to my promotional efforts. I make a new post on Instagram every day, and when there is nothing to post, I go and add more products to show them in the Instagram feed. I just start uploading as much as I can, but because I am perfectionist, I am able to add no more than 10-15 products at a time.

Can you tell us more about your promotional strategy?

To promote my business, I rely on organic social traffic. Instagram and maybe Pinterest are my main marketing channels (Facebook didn’t work for me). Thanks to Social Rabbit, I got my Insta page to 20k followers. And actually, my first sale happened after an Instagram shoutout.

Also, I am following best SEO practices even though I am not pushing it at the moment (the niche is overcrowded with big stores).

On the plus side, thanks to my business niche, it’s easy for me to understand who’s my audience, and target them. Even though I live in Bulgaria, I target buyers from the USA and the United Kingdom. The good thing here is that I don’t pay for promotion mostly – I just spend my time (about 20-30 mins at a time).

What else can you say about managing your business?

On average, I don’t spend more than half an hour a day to manage my store. The most time-consuming task there is choosing and uploading products. And the most challenging part is being consistent even if there are no results yet. Meditations help sometimes 🙂

If there are difficult customers, I simply refund them. I don’t want them to go and submit a PayPal refund request as this might cause my account to be suspended. And on a brighter note, I get a lot of people tagging my store with lovely photos.

My business isn’t registered officially as for now. Registering a company doesn’t cost much in my country. Taxes are also low as for this model of business we just pay 10% flat taxes. I don’t think there are any specific requirements on top of that because with this model we don’t keep stock and stock never enters our country.

How has your life changed with starting an online retail business?

I changed mentally if you know what I mean and became more disciplined and purposeful. Finally, I have a bigger plan which I am following passionately. Money isn’t that important for me even if I am able to save more for my daughter now.

Interestingly, my friends and family support me even though they still are skeptical about this business 🙂

My plans for the future are to establish more connections with Chinese sellers, brand my products, and – why not! – open a store on AliExpress with the same brand.

What can you advise our readers thinking of starting an online retail business?

Don’t start if you are just after the cash, don’t quit if you don’t get your order fast.

Remember not  to rely just on your opinion about the products –  ask your audience, they know better. Be a perfectionist and don’t skip work. Don’t listen to negative people (both in forums or people you know): they just don’t want you to succeed.

Thank you, Angel, for such an encouraging experience of starting an online retail business with a life-changing potential! We wish all the best for your business and your family, and can’t wait to see you building your own ecommerce empire!

What To Expect When You Dropship Shoes?

Today people buy a lot of products online, and clothing is a big part of ecommerce. But what about the niche closely related to apparel – footwear? In this article, we will try to understand whether it’s a good idea to dropship shoes.

In 2019 the share of online sales among United States apparel retailers accounted for 38.6%. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, this number is expected to grow even more in 2020. According to NPD, as of 2018, 36% of online shoppers have bought shoes online.

That’s why people, who are trying to choose what to sell online, often pick apparel along with shoes. However, shoes are different from clothes in many ways. As a result, dropshipping shoes can be risky.

What difficulties you can face if you choose to dropship shoes

1. The original price is high

The first problem you will have to deal with is the price. Certain types of shoes cost quite a lot on AliExpress. For example, take a look at the model on the screenshot.

Screenshot of an expensive pair of shoes one can find on AliExpress

Maybe you think that $55.35 is not much, but when you dropship a product, you have to cover various expenses. You should at least consider the cost of conversion (AKA advertising on social media) and profit margin. As a result, this particular model can cost as much as $90 in your online store.

Of course, the price for footwear from famous brands can easily exceed $200. But on the other hand, the same companies also offer shoes for less than $100 (for example, Nike).

In any case, almost a hundred dollars for a pair of shoes is a serious decision. Most potential customers will think carefully before deciding to purchase something like this. And that’s another problem.

2. No impulse purchases

In dropshipping, being able to trigger impulse purchases is one of the secrets to building a stable business.

An impulse purchase is a buying decision made spontaneously. It is often triggered by pictures of videos of a product that elicit emotions. Another important condition is the product’s price.

When people suddenly see an ad of a knickknack that costs a dollar and they really like it, there’s nothing stopping them from this decision. A dollar is not much, after all. But when a product costs a hundred dollars, most consumers will think carefully.

If you decide to dropship shoes, you should know that at least certain models (with high prices) will not be able to offer this advantage.

3. Quality issues

All customers want high-quality products. But this quality differs a lot depending on what product you buy.

When we purchase something cheap with a short service life, the quality kind of goes into the background. We don’t expect cheap goods to have high quality. But the higher the price, the better quality we expect.

As I mentioned before, many shoe types are quite expensive. Besides, footwear must be durable because you don’t want to purchase a new pair every month.

As a result, one needs to thoroughly choose products when they decide to dropship shoes. Every mistake here will lead to frequent refunds and reputational losses.

4. Size issues

Some people refuse to buy clothes online because they can’t try them on. And that is despite the fact that a slightly larger T-shirt, for example, is not a big deal.

In the case of shoes, comfort is even more important. Too small shoes will cause pain, while too large ones won’t fit tightly. In other words, ordering shoes online is even riskier.

On the one hand, online stores always have size tables, and so do sellers on AliExpress. So, in theory, one could simply copy those tables. But in reality, Chinese size tables are often different from European ones, and customers seldom pay attention to this.

This factor also can cause a lot of refunds.

5. Competition with well-known brands

If you decide to dropship shoes, keep in mind that there are many well-known shoe companies (or apparel firms which also manufacture shoes) you’ll have to compete with. Sometimes it’s about the quality of the goods, but sometimes people simply refuse to buy unbranded items.

This problem is especially obvious when you compete in the same sub-niche. For example, it’ll be hard to beat Reebok or Nike by selling sport shoes. Although some AliExpress suppliers offer cheaper replicas of these brands, selling fakes is not a good choice.

So, can you dropship shoes after all?

All the above makes it hard to sell shoes on a dropshipping website. Expect fierce competition, a lot of customer complaints and refunds.

Still, it doesn’t mean you can’t dropship shoes. Here are a few tips and recommendations that can help you.

1. Find reliable suppliers

Any dropshipping business requires reliable suppliers who provide your store with high-quality products. In this particular niche, this becomes even more important. So your first task is to find such sellers on AliExpress.

2. Choose unique products

Since you can’t compete with most sport and fashion brands, you should focus on something they can’t offer. For example, funny models like this will make a good choice.

Screenshot of an unusual pair of shoes suitable for dropshipping from AliExpress

This pair is funny and relatively affordable, so it can trigger impulse purchases.

Or you can pick shoe types that don’t need to fit tightly such as slippers or crocs.

3. Choose affordable products

I suppose this one is self-explanatory. Since you can’t provide top quality, switch to cheaper goods.

4. Make your own size table

When importing goods from AliExpress and editing product pages, check the original size table. If required, replace it with a new one, adapted for your target audience to help them choose the correct sizes.

All in all, dropshipping shoes is associated with a number of difficulties I mentioned above. But at the same time, with due approach, one can make money in this niche just like in any other.

So, if you want to dropship shoes, perhaps it’s time to start your dropshipping business by ordering an AliDropship Custom Store?

Ecommerce Testing: This Is Why You Need To Test Things Before Investing Money Into Marketing

Ecommerce testing can be a useful method of improving a dropshipping business

Business requires thinking and being able to predict how the market will react. The problem is no analysis can be 100% accurate. In these cases, you need ecommerce testing! Keep reading to learn what to test and how.

[content title=”Table Of Contents”]

On the AliDropship blog, we keep telling our readers, who want to start a dropshipping business, about how important it is to test everything you do or use. Why?

Unfortunately, your education, talent or intuition cannot always be right. For instance, sometimes even after a thorough analysis, entrepreneurs target a wrong audience. After all, it’s almost impossible to take every single detail into consideration.

In other words, at each step of your sale process, there can be surprises awaiting you. They can be both beneficial and harmful. In order to minimize risks or maximize benefits, one needs ecommerce testing.

But before we begin, remember this:

  • First of all, you don’t test each and every part of your marketing strategy at once. Test them one by one. If something works well, leave it be! But if you’re not happy with something (for example, the number of site visitors from social media), that’s where you might want to start testing.
  • Testing costs money! Even if you set the minimum budget to your ad sets in Facebook, you will still have to spend a lot before you get reliable results. Our team usually runs tests for about a week.
  • Ecommerce testing for dropshipping is an advanced approach. It’s difficult, expensive and isn’t always reliable. But it can reveal opportunities you couldn’t see before. For example, you can discover a target audience which converts much better than the one you target right now. This allows you to invest in promotion more efficiently.

Now, let’s get started! Here’s what you can test.

Ecommerce testing: Ad creatives

Ads are the part which converts social media users into website visitors. First of all, one can test different ad types and formats to see which brings more traffic to their online store. Experience shows that video ads work better than other types, so you probably want to focus on these.

But you can also test a variety of ads. For example, even if you decide to follow our recommendation and use video ads, you should make at least two or three creatives and test them.

The safest way to do it is to start an advertising campaign and launch a number of ad sets (one ad creative per each) with a minimal budget. Then simply watch how they perform. Turn off the ones that obviously bring little to no results; keep waiting for at least a couple of days if there are several ads that perform well and pick the best one after that.

This is how it works in theory, but what exactly should you do to make ads different from each other? This is what you should think about.

1. Testing ad picture

If you choose to use pictures for your ads, obviously you can experiment with the images. It is actually crucial which one you pick because images are what social media users see in the first place.

An ideal picture shows what kind of item you’re advertising, what it does and how it works. This is how you inform potential clients of your product. If a Facebook user sees something weird and can’t tell how this thing works is a second, he or she will just keep scrolling the feed.

Testing ad pictures will show you which one won’t let that happen.

2. Video thumbnails

Same goes for thumbnails you want to use for video ads. To see its content, a user has to play the video. But if the thumbnail doesn’t look interesting, funny, intriguing or attractive, people won’t touch it. That’s why it’s a good idea to test a number of thumbnails for the same video.

For this part, use the same criteria as for ad images: ideally, you need to explain what your product is, what it does and how it works. Read this article for more tips on how to make the best-performing video thumbnails.

3. Ad copies

A good picture or thumbnail can catch a user’s attention. But it’s not enough to make them click on the ad. So, the next step of your ecommerce testing agenda should be the ad’s content.

In case of image-based ads, pay attention to the texts. It’s difficult to tell what can be beneficial and what could hurt your ads since it depends a lot on the type of product you promote. But consider these tips:

  • Make ad copies short and clear. Nobody wants to read small fonts or analyze long paragraphs. Go for simple and comprehensible phrases.
  • Don’t describe your product’s features. Describe the benefits buyers will enjoy after purchasing it.
  • Make sure to place a call to action in your ad such as “Shop now”, “Click here”, etc.
  • If applicable, try informing users of sales, promotions, discounts and any other bonuses you can offer. As a rule, these details trigger interest very well.

4. Opening part of video ads

Just like with ad copies, you can also experiment with the content of your video ads. However, I recommend paying more attention to the first three seconds of your videos as this is often the segment which determines whether people will or will not watch the video to the end.

So, if you don’t want to spend more time by testing the rest of the video (you probably don’t), focus on these three seconds and try different approaches.

5. Testing target audience

Lastly, when we talk about ecommerce testing, we should also mention target audiences.

Although a good entrepreneur always analyzes potential customers, there’s always a chance you made a mistake or missed a large portion of people who could be interested in your product.

At the very least, I recommend trying target audiences based on Facebook interests and lookalike audiences. Our own experience shows that sometimes one of them prevails, but you never know which. So make sure to try both before raising the budget.

Aside from that, you can try testing targeting options within these two audience types.

Audience based on Facebook interests

I’ve already described how our team searches and tests Facebook interests in one of our articles. Basically, this is exactly what you need to do. After finding a number of interests which seem to be related to your product, you want to create ad sets, with each targeting a particular interest, and see which one brings more sales.

Testing can be useful because the obvious interests don’t always prove to work well. For example, our team was once testing audiences for a product related to gardening. To our surprise, “garden design” and “landscape design” didn’t work at all. At the same time, the first three positions were taken by “backyard”, “Groupon” and “Ikea”.

Lookalike audiences

Facebook is capable of creating audiences by finding users similar to a prototypical audience – for example, people who watched your video ad to the end, or users who visited your dropshipping store, or those who put something into the shopping cart or even bought something. The algorithm finds similar users, thus expanding the initial audience from, say, two thousand users to a lookalike audience that can consist of as many as two million people!

However, this lookalike audience is not homogeneous. It consists of segments, with each being similar to the prototype in a certain way. When setting your audience, you can choose which segment of your lookalike audience you want to target.

Screenshot demonstrating how a Facebook lookalike audience can be divided into segments

Here you can choose between 1% to 10% (similarity degree). The point is that 1% won’t necessarily convert better than 4%. In this case, your job is to find out which segment is the best. Our team usually tests 1-5% like you can see on the screenshot.

But you can also compare percent ranges such as 1-2% vs. 3-4%.

Screenshot demonstrating how you can pick segment ranges from Facebook lookalike audiences for ecommerce testing

In both cases, you create one ad set corresponding to one segment and test the group for a few days.

Ecommerce testing:  Product page

The main purpose of social media ads is to lead users to your site, namely to the page of the product you advertise. However, it doesn’t guarantee visitors will actually put the product into the shopping cart and click on the “Purchase” button. In fact, some people don’t buy anything even after they add goods to their shopping cart.

There are plenty of possible reasons. Sometimes it’s the item’s price or the shipping cost that discourages them; sometimes they simply misunderstand your initial offer and expect a product of a different kind. In other cases, your product page fails to convince visitors that:

  • The product’s quality is high enough;
  • The item is capable of performing certain functions;
  • Your ecommerce website can be trusted.

Remember: the worst part of online shopping is the fact that you can’t see or touch the actual product. All you have are pictures, videos, GIFs, descriptions and other customers’ reviews. And this is where you can change the situation.

At this point, an online store owner can test different combinations of the above to create the best user experience possible and dispel any doubts.

Sometimes a detailed description works best. Sometimes potential customers don’t want to read long texts – all they need is a short list of specifications to make sure the product is what they think it is. Certain goods can be demonstrated well with just a few high-quality pictures, while other products require a detailed video or a GIF file.

If you’re using a number of AliDropship add-ons that let you create special offers, you might also want to do a little software testing to see which kind of offer works best by choosing between coupons, discounts, gifts, bulk offers, etc.

You should also keep an eye on your site’s download speed. Today even the most interested customers will leave a site if it takes more than 6-8 seconds to load. In this case, it doesn’t matter how good your product page is. So, consider sacrificing certain videos or the quality of photos if it makes the page too heavy.

Since you can’t be sure what will work best, think of two or three combinations, and create a corresponding number of pages. Then split all the traffic between the pages to see which one shows a better conversion rate (i.e. generates more sales). That’s called A/B testing.

To do it, create two identical ad sets that target identical audiences and show them identical ads, except these ads have two different links, with each leading to one of your product page variations.

With identical budgets, the audience should split more or less equally. You can also create several advertising campaigns identical in every aspect except for the links, but it’s not a good idea to duplicate this much data.

Although this test can’t be as accurate as a normal split test, it’s an easy method to check which product page works better.

As you can see, ecommerce testing is a useful, but difficult way to improve your business, especially for those who built their dropshipping stores one their own. If you want to make things easier, consider purchasing one of our ready-made solutions – Established Stores and Premium Stores created by our team after thorough analyses and testing.
